Question 993 keyless remote help

I just bought an Ebay 1996 C4S and the prior owner doesn't know the 4 digit key number, just one key and remote came with the car. If I buy another remote how can the Porsche dealer service tech program the thing without the key number ? Also, if the remote fails I won't be able to trigger the ignition in the proper sequence to start the car. Luckily he gave me the radio 4 digit security code.

I received also only one key with my 97 94 C4S. My local dealer charged me 0.5 hr labor to program additional remotes - including getting the 4 digit key from Porsche, N.A.
However, they are so hopeless that they couldn't get the car into program mode.
I did it myself after obtaining the code from the stealer, and now I have 4 working remotes !
see my info toward the end of this post https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...ghlight=remote

Where in East Cost are you?

Gerry, I am in Maryland, to get my just acquired C4S '96 I flew into Boston, rental up to Augusta then back to Maryland. Picked up car in a heavy rain, no heat from the CCU ! No Gas on Thanksgiving night ! 700 miles later I made it. CCU is in Calif for $350 rebuild. Anyway, I see on Ebay the remotes go for a tad over $100, but another thread here suggest just $15 for a new remote, what am I missing ?

$15 is just for the plastic case. $100 is for the complete remote with working innards.

Patrick,

I purchased my car this past winter and also had only one remote and no 4-digit code. Check the archives, there is a lot of info on replacing remotes. A good place to pick up a new one is Sunset Porsche in Oregon. I purchased one from them in the spring for less than $80. A reasonable dealer will provide you the code for your car with proof of ownership and the VIN. There is a procedure to allow your car to capture several remote codes (I think up to 5?). If you can't find the procedure in the archives PM me and I'll dig it up for you.

Good luck,

Shawn

Hmm, I wish the plastic case was $15, I called my local dealer and Pelican Parts. The plastic remote case is now$70!! If any of you have an extra or know where i can get one for $14, let me know.

Thanks
Don

Don't know about $14, but here is switchblade conversion from Gert http://www.carnewal-europe.com/cpx_p93007.htm.

You can try Pelican as well. They are a sponsor and have pretty much everything. Find the part number from p-car.com or from searching and call Pelican.

Thanks for the Carnewal link. I got the part number from P-Car.com and called both Pelican and local dealer. Pelican was $68, local dealer was $70. Wonder when the price went from $14-->$70!!! I think Carnewal will be the best deal ~$65 because it includes both remote housing and litghted key.

Thanks,
Don

I think the $14 is an urban legend, or before the euro rose in value like crazy.

I just converted my switchblade to the fob and lighted key cap. I purchased everything from the dealer. The $70 fob came with the circuit board and battery. I just pulled the board out of my switchblade and replaced the virgin board that came with the fob. I do not think you can buy the fob casing seperately...at least that is the info they gave me. And the deler ALWAYS has it right...

i got the fob (and key head) from my mechanic w/o the circuit board or battery (already had those and didn't see the need to buy them again). i think it was about $50.
