Post Carbotech Brake Pads

Hey guys,

We just landed a distributer role for Carbotech brake pads. I do not know how many of you guys have used the compound before, but it is far superior than almost anything else on the market, yet rotor friendly.

Please email us with any questions you might have.

Will stick with my Performance Friction 90 compound, thank you.

This seems too muck like SPAM; take your dopey ads and shove 'em where the sun doesn't shine.

Hey now.. no need for that. I was simply trying to gauge interest and if there was enough, I was going to simply offer a Rennlist discount.

I have heard some people using CT compounds with much success over others, and wanted to see what people were using on here.

Not SPam perse... and ads being dopey or not, should be ok from a supporting vendor

Jen is still setting it all up.

After helping a bunch of you guys with the HID group buy (and still w/ the Fikse GB), I determined to contact JohnD and JenM in regards to becoming a supporting vendor. Jen has my info and she has just been swamped lately (gave her payment and credit card info early last week). She is trying to design a banner which will be aesthetically pleasing to the Rennlist site design, but until that is done, I was told she would make the necessary changes and that I could start posting as a "supporting vendor".

Is that clarification enough? I would have really liked to keep that offline, but it seems the friendliness and courtesy of this forum is non-existent in this thread.

In addition, for all my future group buys, I will require Rennlist Membership to help boost support here. Either that, or I will setup a program where I will donate a certain amount to Rennlist per order. I have strongly believed in giving back and giving credit to those places who help us out. Believe me, I am not in the business to take your money and run. We have held numerous charity promotions to help such organizations as the Leukemia and Lymphona Society, Audi Club Charity VIR event and we are sponsoring an upcoming Charity Autocross in the DC region.

I did a write-up of the Carbotech Panther + pads HERE

My review was very positive, but I am now observing discoloration on the outside diameter of the rotor that I think might be due to excessive heat build-up. Could it be the the Carbotech's don't dissipate heat as well as some others, or generate more?

Hi Erick, thanks for the reply.

There are so many factors that could be causing the discoloration that it would be hard to say.

I will have to wait and see on my test cars (Corvette, BMW M3, WRX), but I have had many track days and nothing yet... I will be running the Panther XP next week and I will report back as to any problems I might forsee...

Carbotech also released their Bobcat line which has even less dust and claims the same "bite" as Panther Plus.

Thanks again for the very informative link!

I personally like having people expose us to new products, but I do not like it when people have not proven their products and are simply pushing them here. There are already many performance pads on the market and if you get the correct installer pads like Pagid orange work very well all the way around. I joined the HID group buy even though the vendor really knew nothing about Porsche headlights. Enough of that. If you are going to advertise products here then you better know our cars better!

Kary, that is why we had one test vehicle BEFORE we started the group buy. Everyone just got into it before the test car received his lights. We were 99% sure there would be no issues and that everyone would be happy with the result. Are you not happy w/ the results?

These pads have been proven on Porsches of MANY track drivers and racers. My initial question was whether anyone HERE had used them and what their thoughts on them were.

Also, lets assume I had no clue on anything (not the case, but lets assume). The reason Rennlist is here is for everyone to learn, vendors and owners both. In the HID group buy, I was contacted by a Rennlist member. I did not contact that individual. We both though there was a good application and we proceeded with it. I believe the first thread posted was by that individual who made it clear he was TESTING the product first hand for EVERYONE. Not all vendors may know everything about every application they may have, but instead of just flat out telling everyone it would work fine, we went through the step of obtaining a test subject first.

Same w/ the Fikse GB, I know nothing about Porsche offsets and sizes, so does that mean I should not use my resources to help Rennlist members?

I will say this, if we are absolutely clueless, we aren't going to try to market something to you. This isnt some new brake pad that just came to fruition. Carbotech has been around for 10 years or more. Like I said before, I saw an opportunity that presented itself and if there was enough interest, I would pass as much savings as I could to you guys.

I tell ya... tough crowd today.

No more worries. I have removed Carbotech from our site. I felt, brake pads were inconsistent w/ a Lighting Store.

For those who might still be interested, you can still email me.

Eric,

Just as a sidenote, I think people are sensitive to advertising here but the flip side of the equation is people are interested in recommendations, personal experiences and success stories. It is a fine balance between them.

I applaud your desire to help rennlist members out (while still making a buck - which is fine). The question in my mind is the approach. I'd like to suggest some possible approaches that I think members would welcome. And by the way I hope member comment if they think this is a good idea:

propose an offering to "beta" test products and have some members sign up. In exchange for being a beta tester of these products you should ask people to post their experiences with the products on the site. That really serves two intents - first the sharing of information and second you can formulate antoher group buy.

to that point may be rennlist should have a subsection on group buys for each of the cars. this is different than the sponsors page. this is a specific offering from a sponsor that promotes discounts for group purchasing.

any thoughts?

Cheers,
Boris

Hey Boris, Thank you for your feedback. Actually, that is exactly what we did w/ the HID Group Buy. We had Chris "beta" test the product first... word just got out too fast about it and people started posting. I was told that very few if any had ventured into retrofitting HID in their 993s so I felt that was very necessary.

As far as the Carbotechs go though... I have been told that there have been many who have used them, but I was not sure if anyone here had. Once again, trying to gauge interest before pursuing a "beta" tester. Setting up and organizing these group buys are very time consuming and if there was not enough interest for them, I was not going to go ahead with it.
