Alternator makes noise when I turn the lights on

"Autozone will sell You a alternator with a lifetime wty for Your car at a VERy reasonable price if it needs one."
Many of the Rennlist sponsors should be able to supply a 993 Bosch alternator
at a reasonable price. I seriously doubt that Autozone can supply a real Bosch 993
alternator for $175 to $200. The 964/993 alternator (115 amps) is a low volume
and a more costly unit to rebuild than an older Porsche alternator, e.g. 3.2/SC.
Maybe the Porsche dealers need to resource their alternators from Autozone,
versus Porsche Atlanta as the dealer cost is more than $175 - $200.

Anyone still having this problem?
Was it a need for a new alternator, fan belt, alternator brushes, or just an exciting new noise to worry about? Could really use the group's help here, I am hearing the noise too. Thanks.

Glen, thanks for the info re: AutoZone, I never even considered that as an option. Not that I'd buy just any part, but some of the "sundry" items should do fine, as you said.

Moose, Mine kind of quit making the pronounced noise after we got back into the sane temp range. It made the noise when we were in the -30 degree range here in Montana.
