Well, it wasn't exactly a perfect weekend as I did qualify in the front half of the grid of SRFs (19 out of 40), but to the credit of our team, I did manage to finish Dead F-ing Last, or DFL, in my first SRF race weekend. Dont believe me, <a href="http://www.ncrscca.com/Pdf/2003%20Results/May%2010/G8r_sun.pdf" target="_blank">see for yourself</a>.
I will spare you all the excuses (they are good though) and just tell you that after my fantastic qualifying effort, I spun 3 times in the race and got put in the wall by a backmarker on lap 6 of 10. Suffice to say that I should never have been back there in the first place (remember the three spins), but that idiot sure should plug in his mirrors next time.
Okay, I have to make one excuse for the spins. My friend (car owner) raced on Saturday and had what is commonly called an 'in car meeting' by the SRF guys during the race. Think I should say anything to him? I mean, guys like Roger Penske don’t drive anymore.

<img src="http://pcarracing.homestead.com/files/srfvir2003/MARRS_Race_Highlights_big_0003.jpg" alt=" - " />
He evidently knocked something in the front out of alignment and we didn't know it, so the car was sketchy for me. There, my first HWFMR excuse ever. LOL!
(BTW - kind of funny how the team owner gets bigger pics too isn't it?)
Here is the shot of my in car meeting:
<img src="http://pcarracing.homestead.com/files/srfvir2003/EJ_MARRS_3_0003.jpg" alt=" - " />
<img src="http://pcarracing.homestead.com/files/srfvir2003/EJ_MARRS_3_0004.jpg" alt=" - " />
And for full effect, feel free to watch the video of the race or just the wreck <a href="http://www.paceglobal.com/encontrolmeter/ej/srf/" target="_blank">here</a>. I just ask you to please right click and select save as.
Finally, in an ironic twist of HWFMR fate, of all the SRF cars and drivers, the SCCA region chose to feature me in the pictures on their site <a href="http://www.ncrscca.com/images/gallery/May%2011%202003%20Double/specford2.jpg" target="_blank">here.</a> You can see all the race pics <a href="http://www.ncrscca.com/2003%20May%2011%20Double%20Sarrc%20Marrs.htm" target="_blank">here</a>. Take special note of the wickedly fast Volvo racers, if ever there was a candidate for the HWFMR team, these guys should get it.
Anyway, there you go. The first perfect result for the team. It was a great weekend, and I highly encourage any and all RLers to get out there and race. Makes DEs look like a manicure at FiFi’s.

E.J.,
Look at the bright side. Your improvement will be straight up! Looks like an exciting weekend anyway. Last place... I think I may have been last when I crashed at CMP Club Race. But I was third at the time of the incident so I won't count that.

EJ, I'm glad that you are okay (no injury from the crash)
I heard/read that recently Mark's SRF was crashed too <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="frown.gif" />

This proves that EJ is a real racer and a natural for SRF. First race - he spins multiple times, gets hit and taken out and even hit one car but didn't realize it - that is the SRF spirit.
So EJ - Tell everyone what you learned about skinning other cars when passing.
Pin - Yes, my SRF also was in an incident, but it came out a bit worse than EJ's. It was shortened about 2-3 feet, but is almost back together with some welding, etc. I wasn't driving it at the time -someone else and they are OK but got a lift from the scene to the paddock in the big white truck with the flashing red lights.

Mark - I think I read about that at Tracquest message board and I think I saw the picture of your "shortened" SRF ![Frown](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)
That's very unfortunate Mark but thankfully he was not hurt.
I'm still waiting for an opportunity to drive my car (ex DJ's) on the track. Hopefully it'll be next month at Thunderhill. That car is awesome and I really like it a lot.. but yeah it can't compare to a Radical or SRF...

In the words of a great road racing Sage:
</font><blockquote><font size="1" face="Verdana,Tahoma,Helvetica">quote:</font><hr /><font size="2" face="Verdana,Tahoma,Helvetica">by Professor Helmüt Tester
<strong>I've had people start to do that to me, but I usually cure it by driving straight thru their sidepod - "Oh, pardon...excuse me...didn't see me ??? Let me help you off the track".
Make your pass within 6-12" of them, as - 1. It'll intimidate them 2. If they're on-line, it still gives you the biggest radius possible, if you're in a corner 3. If the dumb bastard turns down on you, they're only turning down on you from 6" away, not a couple of feet, or a car length, or a football field. It's all about adding the vectors - the delta V's of the vectors don't have time or distance enough to add up to a significant whack, and you still have lots of track to compensate for the fact that they're F@#!%*# idiots.
Skin them.</strong></font><hr /></blockquote><font size="2" face="Verdana,Tahoma,Helvetica">Lesson learned.

Congratulations, EJ on an auspicious start.
In my maiden race, I was basically going to be lapped by just about everyone until I caught a late full-course yellow.
As a result I could not brag about a DFL.
Congratulations, and way to live up to the team motto.

We're all so very proud of you!
I found it interesting to see you shaking your head after the bad shift without knowing it will get worse.
I wonder where the other driver was looking?

I've heard that short wheelbase SRFs corner better!
Glad to hear that you're back in the driver's seat E.J. <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" />

It really was amazing that after seeing clearly other car in his mirror (E.J. was "saying hello" couple of corners before) and after that long straight (and being propably even little behind E.J) he manages to do that...
Of course accidents happend and you don't always see everything but that really was bad...
