Post New car didn't start this morning.

My 1995 C2 was delivered 4 days ago. I went out this morning to take it in for the emissions test and the thing was dead. No clicking or anything. I pushed it out and jumped it and it now is working fine. After jumping it I noticed the passenger side door appeared it was not closed all the way. With the interior light on for 36 hours is this enough to drain the battery or do I have other problem lurking? The battery is 1 year old. Since this morning I have driven it again and it started right up.

I didn't close the trunk lid completely for about 36 hours last week and the battery was dead. My battery is only 2 months old. Welcome to the "make sure the interior lights are out" club!

911's seem to consume batteries at an unusual rate - I've owned my car for ~2.5 years, and bought two batteries for it during that time. I've noticed that, once a battery in my 911 is dead, it never really comes back. If you want reliability, I would advise buying (yet another) new battery, and getting the Porsche trickle charger for the car.

Yup, leaving the interior light on will kill the battery quickly (ask me how I know <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> ).

With the interior lights on (trunk/engine bay lights included), I've measured my car's current draw at 1.54A. With the interior lights off, it only draws 19mA. So, the interior lights are drawing 81 (!) times more than normal shutdown current. I can see how this would flatten a battery rather quickly.

I have learned that if you have the hood or the trunk open for a long time, just close the latch assy. which simulates the trunk/hood being closed. you can do this with your fingers, and the light will go out. Now the important thing is to remember to pull on the trunk or hood release BEFORE closing either of them.

I also learned that leaving the trunk slightly opened drains the battery. If you don´t use your car for some days, perhaps a Trickle charger may do the trick!!
