A couple of inches in width until you get a C4S - then you get the Twin Turbo brakes.

Ray is on the money, the couple of inches are in the rearn not the front. The front is the same width as a narrow body...you also get a split intake grill in the rear, and the Turbo front grill. Big Red brakes are found on the C4S, but I believe they were optional, not standard...I could be wrong.

You can convert a C2 narrow body to a wide body...it is expensive, in the procress you will bastardize the car and probably decrease its re-sale value.

The C2S cars and C4S cars do cost more...be prepared to pay at least a $5,000 + premium for these last of the air cooled line. They do look nice.

The widebody cars also came with the Turbo front bumper. The rear split grill was only installed on the Carrera S. Larger Turbo brakes with red calipers were only installed as standard on Turbo and Carrera 4S. No other 993 sold in the US came with these as either standard or optional.

I thought the width difference between the narrow body and the wide body was 25 cms (close to 10 inches than 2). I may be misinformed...

Do anyone have the exact width difference?

Narrow body 1,735mm
Wide body 1,795mm
Turbo & S models have an extra 30mm per side. 1" = 25.4mm.

O.K. So if I have a 1998 carrera 2 cab with the turbo front bumper (with bumperettes)and no split rear, do I have a wide body or a narrow body?? Thank You. I also do not know about the "S" suffix.

I could be mistaken, but I believe there were no wide body cabs or targas during any 993 year. In 1998 all coupes were wide body.

The factory only made 993 widebody cars in Coupe versions:

1996-1998: Turbo
1996-1998: Carrera 4S
1997-1998: Carrera S

All Targa's and Cabriolet's were narrow bodies regardless of MY. If anyone has a Turbo front bumper on a narrow body car, it was retrofitted by someone.

Viken/all-

Do you know (roughly) the US production numbers for the '98 C4S? OR, do you know of a resource that would have this data-Web, 800# etc?

It was previously stated that PCNA sold 298 '98 Carrera 4S cars in north America.

With the support of Viken's post, I'll amend my "I believe" to a firm "I AM sure!" So, Phil, is your very wide body 1998 c4s even wider than just a wide body?

I was under the impression that a turbo front bumper will fit the narrow body 993 since only reaer fenders were changed. Am I wrong? I believe it is the owner of
p-car.com that has one

Could it be that his is the one that's 10" wider than ours?
