Thumbs up 3M Scotchlok UY connectors

I'm doing the oil cooler fan switch DIY and needed to either solder or use mechanical connectors. I decided with 22 gauge wire connectors would be fine. I found these connectors and thought others might be interested, I've never seen them before. They operate on the same theory as the blue clamshells, but they are for small wire 22-26 gauge and best or all when you press the yellow part down the connection is sealed with a gel. They are apparently used by phone companies to splice lines. <img src="http://boards.rennlist.com/upload/Dsc00242.jpg" alt=" - " />

Cool find. They're probably fine, but after having done my share of wiring work in cars, I'd still solder in a splice. Reason: reliability over time. (and perhaps a bit of OCD )

It's only a bit more trouble to take a wire stripper, pull back insulation to expose the bare wire (not cutting the wire, of course), and twist on the new one and dab a bit of solder. In my mind, at least I know that if there's ever a problem with a given electrical component, at least I can eliminate my handiwork as a culprit. Still, it's probably "overkill" on my part. Just my opinion, FWIW.

I’m with Edward. I always solder connections in cars. Those phone company connections aren’t meant to withstand constant vibration. Over time, the wires could work loose.
