Immobilizer Warning Light and Programming a Remote
It appears my Immobilizer warning light is burned out in the instrument panel clock. I've searched the archives, this forum, Robin's site, the owners manual and my 993 factory repair manuals, but haven't found anything that tells you how to replace this light bulb. Probably right in front of my face, but would appreciate any help in finding info on how to go about doing this.
I noticed the light while trying to program an additional remote with the emergency unlocking procedure as described in the owners manual. Managed to set the car alarm off twice (daughter love it, neighborhood dogs didn't), but no luck programming the remote. Any advice here would also be appreciated. Thanks.

Can't help you with the light bulb problem, but I have done the programming a couple of times, and the manual is somewhat obtuse. One thing I do remember is that you cannot simply program another remote by itself. You have to program all of them sequentially together, and you have to start the subsequent one shortly after you finish the first.
Terry,
Thanks for the information. I was finally successful in making it all work.
For future reference, all the instrument guages simply pull straight out of the dash. The following link is to an article from a 964 site that explains how to replace your instrument guage faces and gives a good description of removing the guages from the dash http://www.motorportal.com/964%20reg...eplacement.htm.
Once the guage is removed the light bulbs are easily removed by a quarter turn with a small screwdriver.
With regard to the remote programming, I pretty much followed the owner's manual. One thing I figured out, the car didn't need to be locked to start with. This keeps the car alarm from going off when you don't get it right the first time.
The only screwy thing now is that the airbag warning light is setting. According to the service manual if the light goes out after 2 minutes (which it does) it is a not crash related fault and the memory just has to be cleared. I think the reason it set is because the airbag system needs 10 seconds to do all it's checks once the ignition is turned on. With all the on / off cycles of the ignition for the remote programming, I'm sure things got messed up somewhere along the line.
At any rate, hope this helps someone else down the line. Oh, one last thing, don't believe the dealers when they tell you they are the only ones who can do the remote programming for the small fee of $50. The manual instructions will work just don't try it for the first time at midnight unless you want to make "friends" with your neighbors.
