Recently changed steering wheels and now encounter an airbag light on. Disconnected the battery prior to changing wheels but now the light is on. I use to reset these years ago on BMW and Mercedes. Does anyone know the procedure for a 1995 993?

Yup, take it to the dealer. It won't be reset by disconnecting / reconnecting the battery.

Service manual indicates that if the light goes out after 2 minutes it is not relevant to crash protection, but the fault memory has to be cleared to reset the light.
