This is why Porsche has put a light in the keyhead since the 1980"s...

Guess I am lucky, my '97 has the light above the ignition.

You can also modify the keyhead light with an LED..."Dan 99C2 St Louis" had posted 12-18 mos ago about the mod he did.

I have a 12/93 build, does anyone have a date sooner than that?

Speaking of the LED mod, I did this on my previous car. It was COOL, oh for about a month when it quit working. Either it shorted itself out (which is not surprising given the half-a$$ed assembly method) or the batteries just died. Either way, spending another $10-$15 on another pair of batteries is reason enough for me to avoid the LED mod on my current car. Has anyone gotten a long battery life from that mod?

Default I added the ignition light to my 96.....

The mod was simple and easy. I added a 12 volt light, with a hood so that it would light the key hole with out shining in my eyes.
I drilled a small hole the size of the lamp under the insturment pod right over the ignition (the same spot that factory ignition light is located. I connected the wire to the feed for the overhead interior light so that the ignition light goes on and off with the interior light. I had to remove the left side guages to access all this, but all in all, it was an easy mod.
