Mike - While many a dislexic sports car enthusiast has pronounced it "Fisk" the actually pronunciation is "Fik-see".

I've found that 60-80% of the people who admire my wheels call them "FISK" ... I used to correct them but most people look at me like I'm dislexic!

MC

P.S. - There are few wheels out there that are:

- As beautiful
- As vulnerable
- As attention grabbing
- As expensive
- As difficult to clean and KEEP clean...

Dear H20NOO:
You are 100% correct. I wish you would have posted your pearls of wisdom and truth BEFORE we picked-up a new Cab last week!

I spent my typical hour on the car wash/detail + another 45 minutes on the rims.

Regards,
Tom

Tom -

Here is the procedure that seems to work best...

1. Soak the wheels with S100, Simple Green, or similar non-corrosive cleaner.

2. Scrub lightly with a long, soft-bristle brush.

3. Blast the crap out of them with a pressure washer. A garden hose will do but not nearly as well...

4. Drive the car down the interstate 4 or 5 miles at 80mph...

5. Dry wheels with a soft cloth.

NOTE: Step 4 is very important! The 3-piece construction of these wheels can make cleaning a maddening experience. If you simply wash and dry the wheels, the next time you drive the car, centrifugal forces extricate all the water trapped between the various rim/wheel pieces and you wind up with nasty brake dust and dirt streaks all over your freshly cleaned wheels... When this happens you usually return to step 1.

I have perfected the 30 minute car wash followed immediately by the 60 minute wheel wash... But when they are clean (the first 10 miles afte washing) no wheel looks better!

H20H00

Love your car and the wheels, and particularly admired the shot you posted the other day.

I too have a silver over blue cab.

Is yours Polar or Artic Silver?

Are the Fik-see wheels 17" or 18"?

Has the car been lowered?

I can imagine what a pain in the a$$ a wheel like that is to clean. My wife's 530 w. m suspension has a similar wheel. W@hat's worse is the amount of brake dust BMWs create.

Thanks,

M in C

If you want great looking Fikse wheels that are much easier to clean try FM5's. I have them on my polar silver 993 and thay clean in five minutes. Sorry I don't have any pictures but try Fikse's webb site www.fikse.com. Mike W

Mike -

Artic silver. 18" FM/10's. 225/40 (F) and 285/30 (R) Bridgestone S0-2's. Suspension is completely stock for now.

Fikse wheels look great but I've bent them twice. You only have to drive NEAR a nasty railroad crossing and they start to wobble... The only way to protect them is to run very high air pressure, like 44/46# of air in the fronts/rears respectively.

Good thing they can be rebuilt with new rim halves. The bad news is they have to be shipped to Fikse in Seattle to have the work done.

WOW! That's way too high under any circumstance. You must have a very rough riding automobile. I don't think you need such high pressures to protect the soft rim halves. You should lower the pressures and drive more carefully across railroad tracks.

i'm amazed at the number of people i have run into, that actually own the rims, that call them 'fis-kees'. what?

i mean, if you're going to buy them and own them, at least know that it's pronouned fik-see. As MikeW said, if you're looking for a set of Fikses that are easy to clean, check out the 5-spoke FM5s. i think it's a great look. i did just sell my FM5s though, in favor of another rim.
