993 Technical Session recap, you should have been...
JRG
If I can shop on the internet and quickly, safely, and correctly fix something on my car; I'll do it everytime because I just don't have the time always to take it to the shop and pick it up....Tony's payback will come when I take the car there for things I could and would never do because I know it will be done right......and from the guys I told about the great tech talk and want the shop's number..... and just as an observer.......I think Tony gets a little "payback" from having his enthusiam for the 993 rub off on all the attendees. (that intangible stuff)
Cheers,
Joe
Also thanks John D for looking out for us less savvy types.
And I agree, props to John D and Jen. They bust their tails to keep this site up and running constantly upgraded!!!!
The Best Porsche Posts for Porsche Enthusiasts
I guess I just have a problem with certain things... In my view - Tony went to personal and business expense, took the time and spent a long time preparing for this TECH session. Simply outstanding - and when it was over, Martin S. came back and posted the highlights.... Frankly - that's what it's all about. What it's not about is to have any vendor or commercial entity interrupt or hijack those efforts.
I guess in my view - it would be like me going to a PCA National Tech Session - and keep interjecting to the audience "I know all that - become a Rennlist Member, and so can you!". Is it "informational" or "interruptive"? What I do know - it's not right regardless of the basis.
To Martin, BobbyT and all the rest of the folks in this thread - GREAT THREAD! And BobbyT, you are now a Rennlist Member, just for being patient through this thread - and sharing the details of the TECH Session written up and assisting so many folks on Rennlist - thanks!!! When you have a minute, if you would e-mail Jen at jmunson@rennlist.com, or PM me your mailing address - we'll get out your Membership card and welcome packet.. With all our thanks!

John D.
So, my comments were posted as further clarifications. Most, it appears, don't like contrary opinions posted on this forum.
Rich and Kelly asked the ride height of my car. At the conclusion of a recent session at Johnsons Alignment in Torrance lat week, the heights measured by wifey with my butt in the car are as follows:
LF 25 1/2
LR 25 1/4
RF 25 1/2
RR 25 1/4
Also note that I just had the AJ USA (Rennlist sponsor) www.ajusa.com steering wheel installed. It appeared to be on straight...but whenever the toe is adjusted on the front end, the wheel can migrate to an off of center condition. John Alarcon, Steve's brother, test drove my car at least three time to be certain it was straight. In the process he found the RF caster to be off. It was subsequently measured and was off by 1/2 off a degree, how is that for detail?
Prior to Steve Alarcon raising the car up about 1/2 of an inch in front, it had a little non-Porsche rake and I could not get past the pitch at the bottom of the driveway going into my tiny beach shack's one (1) car garage, without heading in at about a 30 degree diagional. This of course meant that I had to drive a wee bit on the lawn, an observation wifey made. If I went straight in, I would grind my Gert's front protection bar off.
As most of you Porsche geeks in the South Bay/West facing beach towns in LA know, Steve Alarcon at Johnson's Alignment (aka Suspension Specialties) does outstanding work on Porsche cars. And talk about convenient, Tony Callas Rennsport and Johnson's Alignment are on the same property.
This is not to say there are not other excellent shops in and around LA; there certainly are: Hergesheimers, TRE, Vision, Aase Brothers, Werks II, Carlos Granados and Sergio Nardi's shops, 911 Design, GAS, etc. The point here, those of us that live in SoCal are blessed with many fine shops where we can invest our retirement funds and discretionary income.
Best regards,
I'm assuming that I must have saved at least $2K+ on labor cost on the 993 because of all the great enthusiasts in this board who unselfishly posted invaluable technical information. This forum would not exist without your hard work and genuine interest on our cars.
Now, having other people around who plainly wants to take advantage of this group for their own personal gain and even have the audacity not to pitch in $17 lousy dollars for membership and help the board keep going and then question/criticize members or even board founders is beyond me.
All I have is thanks to you folks who founded Rennlist.
P.S. I know this thread is weeks old, but just to express my appreciation to all of you folks here which makes this place a trully porsche enthusiast forum. Didn't mean to bring old wounds back.
