Default Opinion: Suspension

Hey everyone. I'm trying to decide what suspension to put on the 98 C2S.
I'm thinking PSS9s and ROW M030 Sways. I hear a lot of talk about the ROW M030/HD Bilsteins and M030 Sways.
Why would I NOT want the adjustable ride height and adjustable dampers that I would get with the PSS9s for just $300 bucks more. I'm going the drive on the street, but.......

The price difference hardly seems significate.
Gerts:
PSS9s and M030 Sways $2425.00
M030/HD Bilstein and M030 Sways $2100.00

Got potholes/rough roads? PSS9 is harsh in comparison to factory Euro M030.

Hey Randy,

I couldn't agree more other than I believe adjustable bars are equally important. At he very least get the Euro Turbo stablizers (1 mm thicker at the rear) for an additional $ 39. I don't know what the TRG's actually cost, but I don't believe they're much more than the Turbo or ROW bars. Love that car!!!

Couldn't I adjust the dampers to smooth out the ride if one setting is too rough?

Is the Euro Turbo Stablize in addition to the Sways?

Randy,

Their the same stabilizer bars. The difference is jsut the sthickness of the rear bar (1 mm more for 38bucks).
If you back off the PSS9's with smaller sway bars, I would imagine you would lose some significant side-to-side stability. Steve at Rensport wrote something about that recently....the thread was: "Should I get Upgraded Sway Bars" (I don't know how to link a thread)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
From Steve:
"Just remember that adjustable swaybars are THE main tool for altering the understeer/oversteer balance of the car.

If you want to reduce the understeer (unwillingness of the car to turn in), you need a matched pair of adjustable bars.

I paid $1,400 for my ROW M030 kit (shocks, springs, sways). That made my decision easy. Search on my screen name and M030 and you will find the details in a thread called "M030 my oh my"

fbfisher,

Did you get your RoW M030 (shocks, springs, sways) through Gert?

I had stock shocks and PSS-9's. Some people have mentioned how the PSS-9's ride harshly, but I don't think they're that bad at all. You don't have to adjust them if you don't want to. If you have a slight inkling of tracking the car and like tuning things to make them better (stereos, computers, fishing rods, firearms, etc.), you'll want to tweak your PSS-9's to the track and your driving style. I'd pay the money now rather than regret not getting the better equipment.

I looked for the M030 at the Schetzmans? link. Could not find them. A $1000.00 savings might make them feel a whole lot better.
Still, should I do the shocks/sway kit or buy adjustable sways?

I have PSS-9's on my car and I don't track it and the ride is just fine for the street. It is firm, not harsh, remember the damping is adjustable ...the suspension has compliance over the rough spots, handles like it is on rails and I get to dial in the ride height I want. I have had them for over two years and 12000 miles and I wouldn't consider anything else.

The Euro M030 sways are perfectly fine paired with a PSS-9. No need for street ride for adjustable sways... I have the Euro M030 sways paired with H&R coilovers on my cabrio and I'm very very happy. I even tracked the cabrio before I bought the race car and I was very pleased with the combo. For the RS sways you have a huge difference in price which IMO its not really worth it for the street...
With the PSS-9 adjustability the only benefit I see is that you can tune the ride to your liking. Its very hard for to compare notes on harsness as our tastes are different... The Bilstein HD with the Euro M030 sways as Gert sell them are also a fine setup for the street.

Randy,
Your questions are good ones but I think at the end of the day the answers revolve around how you will use your car. I like and use the m030 springs w/ Bilstein HD shocks. Of course the Pss9s are a good upgrade. I really like the TRG sways. The adjustability is very nice and they are STIFF!
The M030 turbo sways are good but the lack of adjustability is a bit problematic. Consider adding an extra hole to the rear sway at a machine shop if you go that route. It makes a significant difference in being able to dial out a bit of understeer.
I have heard very good things about the JIC/Cross coilovers. They are 15 way adjustable, have a built-in adjustable camber mount and seem to be high quality. I will probably go this route when I upgrade my shocks/springs next winter. Here is there link http://www.jic-magic.com/productscross.htm I have priced out the competition version in the $2500 - $2600 range (with the camber mount!!). No affiliation, etc...

is there anyone not happy with their pss9's? If i had to do my whole suspension project over again, I definiately would have would have chosen pss9's over Gert's modified Bilstein Hd's with US m030 springs.

I have the PSS9's and TRG bars. Broken pavement, taking train tracks at an angle, pot holes etc are jarring at times but they pretty much are even with the stock suspension. We aren't driving Caddy's here.

Hey Randy. Remember my thread asking about fender rolling and wheel machining? Well, the adjustable suspension saved me from having to do either! A half inch adjustment and I can keep my wide wheels and do not have to deface my fenders!!!
