I am gonna Xpost this on the turbo board too but since alot of us blower folk
hang out over here I will post it here too. I painted my garage floor with that Rustoleum epoxy stuff and although I am not too happy with it, it does still show oil when it leaks. I saw a spot on the floor under my driver side engine compartment. I looked under there and saw a oil saturated intake side of my turbo. I emailed Kevin the turbo Guru and he told me how to inspect it. (is this place great or what!!) I jacked up the car with my new craftsman racing jack and looked to see what was going on. I did not know wether to be estatic because I was goign to be able to send my turbos in to Kev for zero clearnance turbos or scared cause I was gonna have to ask my wife for several G's! and I aint talkin thongs here. anyway most of the oil collected on this actuator and dripped from there. I cleaned it before I took the photos. Kevin told me to take the tube off the turbo (intake side) and feel inside for oil which I did, there was like just enough to wet my finger one or two drops. with the tube off I spun the turbo and listen and felt for any noise or rubbing, but it felt solid. Kevin said that if there was a problem oil would have poured out of the tube. The tube has a connecting tube that connects it to the turbo that is fastened with two hose clamps just loosen those pull it back and inspect. here are some pics of my messy turbo. Turns out that the valve cover right next to the intake side of the turbo is weeping and thats the culprit in this case. You can see the oil on the heat exchanger in the first photo.I will post some more pics tonite after the cleanup.
You should be embarassed to post photo's of such a dirty, oily mess! What would you say if Merritt had a kitchen that looked like that? I expect you to do some real work this weekend and get that cleaned! Those of us with little putt-putt cars know that all that oil and crap must weigh at least 200 or 300 lbs and if we clean it off the car will go faster. You guys with cars that blow a lot of hot air (pun intended) don't seem to worry as much about it - and you should. Clean up your act or we will banish you from the board!
Let me see if I got this right. You would have been happier if they had been shot, so you could rebuilt ZCs. As it is all you have is a dirty car
Welcome to my world.
Yup I was gonna be happy but I did not relish the asking for the cash part. But yes I have to clean up a dirty car.
Tom are we tracksters or Concours people here??!!
Tom it just dawned on me you got more oil on the backside of your spoiler than I have in my OIL tank you got me!!
notice how clean the exhuast side is!!
Paul - I spent good money to have Bob fix my oil leaks. Unfortunately he didn't wash and wax it before I headed out to Buttonwillow . Thus you saw the dirty version. I have cleaned it back up and even painted the primer by the driver's door last weekend. If things look good, I'll prime and paint the rear wing and re-fiberglass the chin spoiler this weekend. I'll then have the concours version track car, until the next track outing.
Well Paul, the good news is that you have to take the turbo off to replace the valve cover gasket. Then maybe you should do the other side just as a precaution. Now while the turbos are off anyway.....
If you have little kids, you will completly understand that Bob is referring to the "If you give a mouse a cookie...." rational of doing a lot of things

So true! It's what you do on your way down the slippery slope.
Gary it was a tiny bit of oil. Kevin said there would be LOTS of oil. the oil that was in there could of just
seeped in it was so small amount.
Ah...Bob I dont think I want to go there yet!!
Ok here is the pic after I cleaned everything up-- not concours but clean
and a pic of my new Craftsman racing jack. Seems to work real well. Got it for $99
ALOT better than the cheapie $40 Craftsman I had before and it is lower.
