Kev, sorry to hear about the accident. Like others said, at least no one was hurt. I lived in Austin for almost 10 years and am quite familiar with the roads there (I live in Houston now). I doubt that having larger brakes would have helped you in this situation. AWD might have helped, but it's probably difficult to prove. I have found the roads in Austin collect a lot of water, and do not drain very well. I can probably guess that you were hydroplaning, and that caused the spin. Alignment is also very critical in this situation. My '95 car had an agressive alignment setup, with BFG GForce KD tires. This combination on wet roads will downright scare the hell out of you. Basically, it comes down to several factors.
