'96 C4S wholesale value
Anybody want to take a shot at estimating current-market wholesale value on a red, very clean, partially documented '96 C4S with 40K miles?
Edmunds says around $44K, Nada $47K, both sound high with current market conditions. Any thoughts?

a good rule of thumb is $4K less than the selling price (not asking price).
i'd guess this car could fetch from $45K-48K therefore a wholesale of $41K-44K
range depends on market, car options, condition, etc.

Just to give you an idea of retail, in San Diego, Pioneer Porsche just sold a 97C4S "Pumpkin Orange" with matching stitching in the black supple leather for the low $60's. It had about 25,000 miles and was in beautiful shape, sport seats, etc. Was I lusting over it..in a way yes. For $10,000 more they were selling a 2002 996 with 320 HP and a Big warranty. Be that as it may, I remain content with my 97 narrow body.

If it is a specific car at a dealer, then "hit 'em low & work 'em" is a good approach. The market is unsteady, it is the end-of-the-year, etc. If you offer $39K (or something you think is unlikely to fly), be prepared to back it up w/ $ & drive away in your new Porsche! That is how to be in the strongest negotiating position. If it is an individual seller, there is far more idiosyncracy - you have to approach the situation as a unique case more than as a market.
