I've got mine Snap-On QC2FR75 5-75 ft/lbs on ebay - here is one, for example

I bought my 3/8" drive torque wrench at Auto Zone or Pep Boys..... Can't recall.

I paid about $25 for it and it ranges from 120 in-lbs to 480 in-lbs. Or, 10 ft-lbs to 40 ft-lbs.

Worked great when I did the upper and lower valve covers.

Any 1/4" torque wrench most likely will be calibrated in in/lbs and cover the lower torque specs (3-15 ft/lbs) easily.

I bought a 1/4" torque wrench years ago especially for the task of putting valve cover nuts back on. Honda's are like 7 ft/lbs and like to snap the studs if over torqued.

Wow!!
Thanks for the info.
I'm curious did you have to remove anything to get to the top valve cover on the passenger side?
The top right valve cover is now leaking really bad and smoke is everywhere.
It looks like the power steering pump and hoses are in the way.

thanks again for the help!!

Fetus,
You have to remove the passenger side engine shroud and air box snorkel.
It is impossible otherwise.

Also, while you are in there, replace the spark plugs.

Reference the writeup here and the engine shroud removal will become clear: www.p-car.com/diy/sparkplug/

Good luck

Thanks Scott for the feedback.
The Porsche dealer wants $1300.00 to replace all four gaskets.
Now I know why.
It looks like a real pain to fix the right side, but it does look doable.

thanks,

Steve,
The only scary part is pulling the engine shrouds on both sides.
Once those are off, the rest is a piece of cake.

Thanks I will give it a try this weekend.
I don't have $1300.00 to pay the dealer.
Of course that was for all four gaskets.
I will just replace the ones on the passenger side.
The spark plugs were just changed so It will just be the gaskets this time.

I think the lower covers are more prone to warping than the top ones for some reason. If the covers are noticably warped then replacement is a longer term fix. New bolts are highly recommended in any case.

I can't profess to having done this DIY but all 4 of my covers have been leaking recently so I have had the top gaskets replaced and new covers on the bottom.

Good luck.
