Talking Fabspeed Supercups...I have just got to...

have a set....as of this afternoon, now I have a set. Oh my god...these pipes are evil. The car finally sounds like a Porsche car, or possibly a cigarette boat.

The construction on the Supercups appears excellent to me. The welds were nicely done and the finish is top quality.

Installation is one hour max...I am too lazy so I asked Jae Lee of Mirage Motorsports in San Diego to install them for me.

Be warned...do not listen to a car with Supercups, unless you want a set. Music Audiophiles will not like these pipes, Porsche engine audiophiles will go nuts for these pipes.

Thanks to Joe Fabiani from Fabspeed. He makes a great product and provides excellent service.undefined

Now that is funny. I already set off alarms in my office parking garage with the Maxflows. Would love to hear the supercups in action. The RSRs are such good quality and provide a wonderful sound, its unfortunate that for us rumble addicted few they are just not loud enough!
Go for the supercups and **** off the neighbors!!

The 'Cups seem pretty tame on the inside. I did the No/Va/DC Rennlist Meet and Drive yesterday and thought I could actually take the car on a six hour drive and be okay. Of course, when I got back home, in the quiet of my garage, I felt a persistent ringing. Yikes!

How do the RSRs compare to the Fabspeeds in sound and resonance? How much?

Now this is a real guesstimate...I'd say the Fabspeeds are about 50% louder...you can hear them rumble in the car, and you get all those neat pops and cracks on downshifts. If you are an audiophile and want to get into your stereo.. these may not be the pipes for you. As Slapshot demo'd the car to me, he pointed out resonance at 2900 RPM, then it went away. Frankly, I just didn't hear it.

I am certain there is someone in the Atlanta area with Fabspeeds as well as RSRs. The only way to judge is inside and outside the car. A car as bad *** looking as your needs to sound bad assed too!

Is there a horsepower gain from the Supercups?

Ah, music to my ears. Nothing street legal that I have heard gives the driver (and passenger!) that flat six Porsche roar quite like Fabspeed "Supercups". You can literally hear every beat of the engine. Just incredible. Contrary to popular belief, the new ones, with the baffles welded in can be driven without invoking the neighbors' ire if you accelerate reasonably. It is very easy to control the noise level. I leave for weekend drives at 5:00 am from quite a hennish neighborhood (ie they'd let me know 'en mass if I woke them up) and have yet to hear a complaint.

As far as HP, I think Joe claims there is a discernable hp gain but . . . most discount this. Regardless, the ability to hear how the engine reacts to every move you make on the throttle and clutch, is amazing and very instructive. As much fun as the sound. Tons of info/debate on it via "search". Not for the audiophile, but unquestionably for the Porschephile.

And for those concerned about tips for track regs/limits like Martin, all the new sets do come with "down turn" tips you can install.

no horsepower gain from any of these as far as I can tell (though the people at Fabspeed will tell you differently). There are certainly a variety of opinions when it comes to maxflows, supercups and RSRs. I have only heard the supercups on the fabspeed video (they are THROATY!). The maxflows are somewhat louder than the RSRs though not quite like the supercups. In fact, the maxflows are probably too loud for many people. The RSRs sound very very nice. If you want a great sound without setting off alarms, the RSRs are the way to go.
Personally, I love the growl that the Fabspeeds put out but they can be a bit obnoxious to some people (oh well!!)

Martin,
If your RSRs will fit a 1997 C2S, I'm interested.
Thanks,
Rick

RSR's have no resonance, Max Flos have resonance. Both sound nice but the Max Flos are louder.

I think you will have a very hard time with 92db. Bring your stock mufflers with you just in case. Do the "new" super cup pipes have the baffles? Those might get you close to 92db.

At Barber my car with no cats and super cup pipes was well over the 104db (I think I was around 109).

Greg, this year's model Supercups come with welded in steel baffles, not those odd little fiberglass paper towel rollers that they used to have. They really cut the noise without diminishing the throaty quality. I have listned to both the earlier models and mine. And all come with down turn tips.

Stop the insanity...I have to have a set! Wifey starts work on 11/29, after the master card bill has come in...that's the time I will be sending in my order! That Slapshot should be on commission for Joe Fab...what an easy sell!

Greg Fishman's advice is good...I would never invest in the eepense to go to Laguna without some dB back up. I saw quite a few cars black flagged this past August at the POC event...I had no problem with the RSRs.

Default I commented on your tips

at SOW this Sunday. I will take the tips and RSR's. email me. Then get yourself the set of Supercups. You drive well enough to own them. Me, I need practice and want my car quiet until I can keep up.

I just installed Supercups 2 weeks ago on my 97 cab. Oh my god.
They are the loudest exhaust I've heard on any street car. I honestly have been approached by 2 police offers this week about it (thankfully no tickets). I'm sure the hardtop its easier to handle, with the cab it is EXTREMELY loud. Especially with the top up. Top down its more bearable. For me, the resonance goes from about 2500-2800 and then dies down to nearly bearable. I'm a fairly young guy too, who used to have a worked over classic Vette and a 5.0 Mustang both with aggressive exhausts.

I dropped my wife off at her work this morning on the way to my work and she said she could hear me driving away the entire walk back to her desk.

Will I switch it out? Jury is still out, I REALLY like it but it DOES get EVERYONE's attention. There's no way to goose the exhaust when passing a cop unless you are completely off the gas. Even at 1500-2000 rpm its very conspicuous.

Now don't get me wrong. I had full warning from fabspeed that it would be loud. And I love them a lot, but they may not last very long for me. The sound clips don't do this system justice. If anyone is in the bay area and wants to hear it, let me know. Its monstrous. In a good way - most of the time.
take it easy
