Post Good news - release of fault code information

Found an article in today's local paper; it's an AP story, but couldn't find it online to repost it here in full.

"Automakers to share secret repair codes"
Automakers agreed Thursday to let independent repair shops use their closely guarded codes that help diagnose troubles with today's high-tech vehicles.
...
Under the agreement signed by the Automotive Service Assoc, the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers and the Assoc of International Auto Manufacturers, the automakers agree to make the service information available on the Internet by Aug 31 at a 'reasonable price'. It will be available to all pro mechanics as well as amateurs working out of their garages, said Charlie Territo, spokeman for the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers."

Very interesting - thanks for the info. I presume Porsche is a member of one of those groups. I wonder how long it will take before the "reasonably priced" info is freely posted on the net?

...and until one of the authors of the current generic ODB-II sofware programs extends their application to include manufacturer-specific data?
