Check back in the archives; there has been a lot of discussion on this. I upgraded my speakers to mb quart separates (6.5"), which made a huge difference in my old car. I liked them much better than the boston acoustics that came w/ my 993. Even the hi fi uses cheap nokia paper speakers. An aftermarket CD player would be as good or better than the porsche, and far cheaper.

Hi Dennis,
I highly recommend you contact Rod Birch of
<a href="http://www.caraudioinnovations.com" target="_blank">www.caraudioinnovations.com</a>
He's knowledgeable, experienced with 911's and has really helped me out with good advice. He did so regardless of me being halfway round the globe, truly great service.
FWIW I've installed an Alpine CD changer in the trunk and it works fine for me. I've upgraded to Boston component speakers in both doors and rear shelve and am very happy with the sound. Next step is a multichannel amp under the passenger seat and an 8"sub, I'm awaiting delivery of the amp.
I've had the dealer install it, but there is a very limited offer of decent shops (of any kind) out here. The link above has a wealth of installation tips and pictures.
Enjoy, Nol

The PO on my car had the cd changer installed in the trunk in such a way that it did not use up any useable space - it is basically bolted to the bottom of the carpet with a stiff plastic backing plate and it comfortably sits inside the spare wheel. Note the space saver spare does not need to be removed - there is enough space inside it.
