Curious:

About what PSI have you guys found works well?
Also, I seem to recall some time ago someone posting that a tube off them master cylinder has to be pinched closed? Is this correct?
Thanks in advance!

What the book says - can't remember what it is (20 psi?)

Look on the reservoir; see if you have a black hose connected near the top of the reservoir. if you do; pinch it shut. If you don't; no problems. I think only the '95 and maybe early '96 993 models (plus all earlier 911s) had the vent hose.

If you have the vent hose on the master cyl, you should get this updated. The vent can dump brake fluid near the front tire, which can splash the car. The update is a cap for the hose and a new master cyl cap, which is vented.

Ray,
Thanks! The Motive came with no instructions except on the container, itself.

Mark,
is this "vented" cap a Porsche Update, or did people just decide that this is an improvement. If the latter, should I assume the cap from the later years is the one sans tube? Thanks.

Assuming you have a non-turbo 993: the vented cap is Porsche part #993-355-351-00 & if you want to use Porsche parts to close the vent pipe, the small rubber "cap" is #993-355-331-00 and the clamp is #999-512-069-02.

After the Rams finish off their Philly cheese snack, I'll try to post a pic of the updated mc vent hose.

Edward,

I use 10 - 15 psi with the Motive bleeder. You should not exceed 20 psi.

It is my understanding that this is a factory suggested update. The tube is actually in the master cyl housing, so you cut off the old tube and replace it with a cap. The master cyl cap is, as far as I know, the standard part for the later build cars. Dan listed the part nos (which I did not have). Low cost upgrade (~$10) and can save serious damage.

The "snack" was more of a mouthfull than I had figured, but here's the pic & part of the Porsche PET illustration for the parts (2a is the vented cap, 5a is the clamp & 6 is the small rubber cap). Hope this is helpful.

Ahhh, now I get it...it's not the "cap" that's vented but a tube off the top of the resevoir, itself, that vents. Thanks guys! I can always count on getting an answer here
Dan, p/n's and pics earn you another fivestar...oh wait!!!

BTW, since Porsche created this (seemingly overly complex!) venting method, what prompted them to create this "fix?"

Well, not quite The older setup has a non-vented cap & a vent hose. The newer setup has a vented cap & no (actually a plugged) vent hose. So, old to new = plug the vent hose & buy a vented cap.

Why they did it - perhaps the overflow hose blew back onto the bodywork so PAG thought it better to just vent it into the trunk.

As for the stars - give them to Ray, or to Steve W, or to Jeff (he seems to be losing his rapidly)
