Post OT: Need advice on a sports coupe.....

Guys, I'm looking to add a coupe as an extra car....... it can be new or used with less than 30k miles. I used to have a BMW 840ci which I loved, but I can't seem to find a decent one in the right color (must be silver) or price (maximum $35k).

I'm now looking at a 2001 or 2002 330ci, but I'd like to hear any other suggestions from you guys. I'd really like something comfortable, slightly out of the ordinary if possible, but something that I'm not afraid to hand over to a valet or park anywhere. 2-doors only, no sedans. Auto trans only, no manuals.

Thanks in advance!

Mark, not sure of the comfort level, but definetley out of the ordinary! plus, the valet should have no trouble parking it. And, with the 35k budget, you should be able to fill your driveway with them!- ps, thanks again for the tire, as shown in my avatar, the car now has new tires and(RUF)wheels. later, Max

Sports coupe?
Auto tranny?
Aren't those terms mutually exclusive? How about a Camaro, Firebird, or Mustang? Plenty available with a wimp stick! Just kidding!

Will try to keep my eyes open in local papers.

There is always a vette. It fits the criteria above, well not unique except for the ZO6. I know, "American rattle box" but they have gotten much better over the years and now seem pretty solid. 2000-2002 are around $28-35K. A Z06 (not sure if they come in auto) also can be found for low 30's.
I would go for the 350Z though, great bang for the buck!

too bad about the manual thing. IF you could get past the looks, I think the most bang for the buck is the Subaru WRX (227HP) or WRX STi (300HP). Subarus, in general, are inexpensive to maintain, reliable, good in foul weather, and look better if you bang them up.

Only come 4 doors, though. You can get an auto in the WRX, slows it considerably. The STi (out this summer) will be 6spd, only.

How about a used Audi S4? Can get auto, but does have 4 doors. Good in foul weahter, looks good, etc.

Practical? Accord coupe w/ 6-cylinder.

'01330CI - I just can't consider a small BMW with an auto tranny. Only the 7 or 8 series...

Good luck!

Oh goody - sport coupes. My 2nd or 3rd favorite car topic. Don't we all just love these cars of ours? My wife thinks I'm car crazy doh! Yeah, she'd be right.

Something out of the ordinary? And you're looking at getting a 330ci? Aren't they pretty much ...everywhere? I'd DEFINITELY go for the 840ci again!!! Did you check cars.com, autotrader, german used cars, duponts registry, hemmings, autoweek classifieds, Roundel BMW car club mag, BMW websites for local car clubs, cetc?? The 96 and above 840ci or an 850i is the way to go IMHO. It's got class, it's unusual, it gets the attention we all crave and desire ... and it looks great! Just be sure to get some nice wheels, like the throwing star wheels from the M5.

Good luck with your search. I happen to love the 330ci, but you said you wanted something a bit different. That's anything BUT that. BUT, the 330ci is a killer car for the money, especially a couple years old.

Thanks for the tips so far. I've driven the G35......and was very unimpressed. There is NOTHING special about that car, and I had high expectations. The 350 is more sporty than luxurious, and I agree that the 330ci is not that unusual.....I see them everywhere. Also, I'd really like something in the luxury coupe area more than a sport coupe, actually. The 840ci is PERFECT for my needs, but I've been checking every source mentioned above for months, and I can't find something in the right color combination, condition, and/or price.

Any more ideas?

Spring is here, maybe an 840ci would BECOME available. I'd wait for "the real thing", the 840ci instead of another car you're only lukewarm about.

It'll be worth the wait!
