OT: Need Advice Selling MB S55 AMG
OT but of importance: In short a very close friend of mine recently purchased ad 2003 MB S55 AMG from a local dealer. Tragically he had a massive MI and died 6 mths after purchased. The local MB dealer offered to buy back the car for $84K.....well below orginal sale price and retail value. Any suggestions on how I can advise his wife to market or sell the car to get a reasonable price?
2003 MB S55 AMG, Sliver/grey, 15K miles, excellent condition, fully loaded.
Thanks,

High end cars like this are tough to sell private party. If she is within $5-8K I would just take their offer.
If not look at advertising in Autotrader, etc. Or maybe a high end dealer that will sell it on consignment.
BuxtonMotorsports will do that if you want. he is a rennlist sponsor.

I would agree, a car like that could take a year to sell. While the dealership may be offering a lower price it's really not worth the hassle of trying to sell it yourself.
If you are concerned about maximizing the price offered, you could phone around to other MB dealers on the east coast and shop the price. You may find one that will offer a higher price. For example, someone that has a customer on the waiting list for a good used S55.

Thanks,
a dealer is NOT gonna pay retail for the car.
Not many retail customers will pay retail.

My buddy paid $117k for this car last year, new. He has a 2003 S55 in Teal Blue - great color for this car. The seats are quite hard, but it certainly looks nice and blows away my cars in terms of speed. The pick up on that car with it's 496 supercharged hp is amazing!!!
If I were this lady, I would call 3 other dealers in the area to make sure that's the best she could do.

I vote for consigning the car with a reputable high-end used car dealer, or coarse this depends on what percentage the dealer wants for the sale. They can offer financing and will keep the car looking new while in their showroom.. Just my .02
