Are DRL's difficult to install on 993?
I am new to Rennlist and have spent the last few months monitoring the 993 site. This is my first post so please forgive me if this is not in the right section. (message originally posted in rennlist canada forum)
I am currently in the market for my first porsche and would like it to be a 95' 993. I am looking towards purchasing in the U.S. because of the price and selection and given our strengthening canadian dollar, it looks as though a good deal can be had despite duty, GST and PST.
QUESTION: I have heard that upon import to Canada, the 993 must be fitted with daytime running lights (DRL). Is this a major undertaking? Anyone have a ball park figure of the cost involved?
Any info. would be much appreciated.

Try a search on rennlister RRLOwen, or send him a message. He imported a 993 to B.C. and can probably help you. ( although a serious head injury has left him now owning a 996 )

Piece of cake... go to Canadian Tire, but a DRL headlight controller (about 30 bucks I think) and simply wire it into the car (not hard at all). You can get the child seat anchors from an Audi dealer (they are MUCH cheaper than Porsche and are the same) and throw them in the glove box for when you go to have the car inspected. Make sure whatever you buy also has the speedo labeled in miles and KM's and you are good to go...
Eric (who is also looking to buy a 993 - probably in the states too!)

I did the opposite. To disable the DRLs on my Canada-spec car I simply pulled the responsible relay out of the fuse box. I don't know if US-destined cars can simply have the relay put in, but it might be worth a look. I can't find a Porsche part number on the relay, but it has the Audi-logo rings and what I assume is an Audi part number: 431951253D followed by >PA66-GF30<
I can post some pictures of it if you are interested.

Danny is correct, the Daytime Running Lights ARE the foglights on the 993. ( for the Canadian version anyhow)
