I got the wires in red and they will be here by this weekend so that I can finish up the car this weekend.. YEAH!!

Jeff,

Let us know how the 8mm set looks/feels/fits in comparison to the OEM wires, as well as any installation issues you may encounter. My wire set doesn't look too healthy and the serious savings of the Kingsborne set looks mighty attractive. Thanks!

Hey Jeff - I just replaced the plug wires in my 87 Carrera. I think they were the original wires with 0ver 110,000 miles on the car. I went with Magnecor 8.5 mm wires and there was a noticeable improvement over stock. My car was already running quite good as I had spent tons of time tuning it up and bringing everything up to date. The new wires made the car feeel even more responsive and smoothed out the power curve a bit as well (the old 3.2 EFI systems tend to have rough spots in them). I doubt you will see that much change in the 993TT, but I bet if nothing else your throttle response will feel a bit crisper.

Jeff,

That sounds great Jeff. You like the quality of the wires, and as I said, you certainly can't beat the price....I am supposed to get my 8mm wires today or tomorrow. I knew that the 10.4s did not have the Beru connectors, but they told me they would not fit anyway.

Are you going on <a href="http://www.pca-ggr.org/winetour.html" target="_blank">http://www.pca-ggr.org/winetour.html</a> ? I need to get my car together before Saturday so I can go, or I'll do it Sunday after drinking lots of beer and watching the Indy 500!!!

Have fun..

Bill,
You mean I could have gotten 8.5 mm wires instead of 8 mm wires?!?!? Great, now you tell me. I can see the point about your 87 with 110K miles, however my TT only has less than 30K right now. Sometimes I think I over maintain this car. But I look at it as my hobby and it's all ok then.

ViperBob,
The tour sounds like a lot of fun, but unfortuantely, I don't think I'll have all the bits and pieces back on the car that soon. I may have it all together by monday.

We should organize another bay area drive sometime soon. There are a lot of new p-car owners that I haven't met yet.

An update on the Kingsborne wires.

Ran into some problems, first the coil wire has the wrong connector on it. The original connector is on the right and the new one is one the left. Notice how the old connector has a "female" end on it. The new connector is just flat.

<img src="http://www.cuberootconsulting.com/albums/albun27/Img_2425.thumb.jpg" alt=" - " />

Then the next probelm is that the connectors are longer than OEM.

<a href="http://www.cuberootconsulting.com/gallery/albun27/Img_2428" target="_blank">
<img src="http://www.cuberootconsulting.com/albums/albun27/Img_2428.thumb.jpg" alt=" - " />

</a>

It turns out that there are different part numbers on the connectors:

<a href="http://www.cuberootconsulting.com/gallery/albun27/Img_2429" target="_blank">
<img src="http://www.cuberootconsulting.com/albums/albun27/Img_2429.thumb.jpg" alt=" - " />

The longer connectors make it impossible to fit some of the wires in, especially #1.

And in general, the wires are too long. Here's a pic of the coil wire and the #1 wire.

I'll give them a call on tuesday and try to figure what to do with these wires. What do you guys think that I should do?

Jeff,

I replaced my plug wires yesterday. Got a set from Huntley racing (also got a set of Magnacores that did not fit). They too had different Beru connectors than most of the ones that came off. Not really a problem, except for the #2 and 4 plugs. These are right behind our turbo tubes. When I installed #4, I could NOT get the turbo tube in at all. I had to use a dremel and cut out the sheet metal through the engine compartment. Part of my problem is that I had upgraded to the new turbo tubes which are larger anyway and barely fit.

Also, the length of my wires was far longer than necessary. Not sure why, but it all works.

Jeff,

Thanks for the update. Excellent pics. Sorry to hear that you're experiencing problems, but I certainly appreciate your information here. Let us know what Kingsborne does to rectify the situation. Meanwhile, you're left having to do the work again and again....bummer!

This sounds very familiar. I had the same problem with Nology. In fact the pics that Jeff show look like the same exact pictures I sent them. The coil connector was the same as what he recieved. The length was also a problem. From what I was told nobody can make an aftermarket kit for the 993. Porsche has a patent or something on the boot so nobody can duplicate it. I dont know if this is true or not but it seems as though this is the case. Jeffs issue could just be a mistake but I havent found a single company that can make an aftermarket set of these wires...

If all 12 plug wires need to be replaced, is it really $1200 for parts?? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" />

I'm still on original wires and so far they look good (no cracks, etc..), but down the road....

I've got some emails out for additional quotes.

I think that the OEM prices that I got were for NA cars, which makes sense. $50 for 1 wire versus $600 for 6 wires? Doesn't make sense if there are only 6 wires ( as in the TT ), but does make sense if there are 12 wires ( for NA cars ).
