Helmet advise....
I'm going to participate in the "Streets of Willow" event on Nov. 6th. It will be my first drriving event in 30 years and I need a helmet. So I would appreciate your suggestions and vendor recommendations for the LA area.
Thanks all,
JRG

No no no.
Go Sunday the 7th. Clockwise rotation, you will like it much better. And... that's when I am going. John... change to Sunday.
Helmet? I still haven't ordered my new one yet. Look at my last Post regarding helmets, it's all there. It's one of the last threads I created.

Steve OFE (ca993twin) said someone had a $350 bell on sale for $125 or something because it
was mistakenly not qualified for F1 or sometihng-- hopefully he will chime in.
I would get a round one though.

JR Gordon,
Where do you live in LA? You can go to Simpson World in Torrance (Normandie near Sepulveda). There's also The Racer's Shop in Redondo (190th near Anza) and they carry some nice helmets, too.

Actually, Alan, doing the Streets in reverse is nice, too, as you can easily go over 100 mph on the main straight (downhill).

Thanks Rich,
I'm in Brentwood so those shops are easily accessible. I'll take a look tomorrow if either of them are open.
Alan,
You're right, it will be Sunday...

JR,
Kim is right. Fit is everything. I have a Bell M3, but know that Arai fits my head shape much better from my motorcycle days. I ordered the Bell via mail-order without first trying it, and that was a mistake.

As others have said, try on many helmets in many sizes. You want it snug on the cheeks, but not tight on the top of your head as it will give you headaches. Some brands fit differently, so check 'em all out

If you go to a motorcycle dealer, be sure to look at helmets that are SA2000 rated and not M rated. SA helmets are tested for rollbar impacts and fire retardancy while M helmets are not required to have fire retardancy. I believe PCA only allows SA2000 helmets. No sense in buying twice.

also remember that the helmet will have a tendency to "pack out" similar to ski boots. So long as its not painful, a "cozy" fit will work well for you as you wear it more and more.
