I was so far down the list on the GB I just got my lights last week...!
Plan to install this week.
Did anyone try that 2 way velcro type tape to mount the ignigtors to the cover of the headlight assembly? Is it flat enough to do that? (I'm working off this page which shows a zip tie doing the job but would like to avoid drilling the cover if I don't have to)

<a href="http://www.mindspring.com/~cinque/HIDInstall.htm" target="_blank">http://www.mindspring.com/~cinque/HIDInstall.htm</a>

Thanks

Ah yes, and on to the next Mod.....

I think the velcro would work to mount the igniter inside the assembly. I might do this as well. I used velcro to mount the inverters and they will be going nowhere. Use the industrial grade.

The velcro works, but you have to mount it to the metal side of the ignitor. The other side is a black, slightly sticky, substance that the velcro tape does not stick to very well. (this will make sense when you see/feel it).

However, why velcro since the igniter doesn't need to be easily removable? I had planned to use HD double backed tape. Anything I'm missing (re THIS subject)?

How about an HID kit for main beam - anyone tried this?

Just finished up my install this evening. Used 3M Mushroom head fastener to mount the balast. (Like velcro, but much heavier and plastic) Used a dab of silicone to stick the igniter to the hatch cover and found some butt connectors with shrink tubing ends on them and some sticky glue which makes them watertight. Found all this at a boating supply store. Lights look great. Now I need a good solution for high beam replacements. Anyone use the PIAA or other H1 bulbs?

What are the size dimensions of the Catz ignitors and ballasts by the way (in inches please). I would be curious to know. Thanks!

By the way,

It appears that the headlamp housings have screm mounts (untapped) available for securing the igniter. All it takes is a small metal strap and a couple of screws and you are in business. I suspect that is how the factory kits install.

The center sleeve of the grommet on my car is much longer than that. On the drivers side there was even less room because that grommet was much smaller. Anyway, I was thinking of replacing my grommets since they are no longer waterproof. Has anyone done this?

Finished my install last night. I didn't have to pull connectors thru the rubber grommet.
I did the slide in/out method w/ ignigtors in the buckets. (I couldn't find the 2 sided stuff @ Home Depot so for now they just rest in the bucket. They actually don't have much room to move even though they aren't secured.)
When it came to the ballast I connected the 2 clips with 4 wires to the ballast after mounting it to fender (shortening the distance from ballast to the fuse so it resides in the luggage compartment) You'll then have 4 wires (2 in, 2 out) I wrapped the hockey tape about as far as I needed to get inside the fender then pulled the 4 wires (small, no connectors) thru the grommet and made my connections to the bayonet plug and wires from the stock harness.
Thanks for all your suggestions and help on this improvement!

I'd suggest flipping the long end of the grommet towards inside on the fender and sinching the end with a zip-tie. Can you say cheap and easy?
