Has this ever happened to you? You give a friend or business associate a ride in your car and as you begin to drive off, he/she tries to hang on (even though you are not going fast yet), by trying to grasp the non-existant roof handle (or whatever the thing is called) for comfort... I can't help it, but it does slightly irk me each time that happens...

Before I bought my previous '85 Carrera, the PO let me take it for a test drive. We started the drive with the windows opened and on some country roads, eventually traveling to the highway. The wind noise at, ahem, speed was rather loud so I hit the window switches to raise the glass on both sides. Unfortunately, the PO had her right hand holding the roof and screamed when the window cut (edit: clamped, not sliced) into the top of her hand. Ooooops. She had a bruise for a few weeks.
Phil, you might want to try a kinder, gentler version of my "technique".

Any idea if there is an "ejection seat" option for our cars?

Yes, they are commonly referred to as **** handles or jesus handles. But those of us with convertibles are deprived, so...
When I have students or riders in my car during autocross, I give them very direct and simple instructions: hold the door handle with right hand, hold the side of the seat with left hand, don't scream, don't flail your hands. It actually works very well in autocross settings, where momentary G-forces on fat Hoosiers can be significant.

I have RS door panels in the car, so there is just a pull handle to close the door and a strap that opens it.. Unfortunately, I was on the track with a passenger that thought holding onto the strap was a good idea. So while climbing up over 100 MPH down a straight, he opens the door about half way. I now tell everyone to find anything other than that nice red strap to hold on to...
