thinking of joining the dark side
*SSSHH* don't tell the boys in the water-cooled forums...
but i've taken a rather keen interest in the 993 lately, and was wondering if you guys could answer a few quickies and/or point me to good sources of information on any kind of light-weight / stripped down 993s?/ something like the GT3 is now?

If you want to know how far you can go with reducing the weight of these cars, search the archives for Robert Linton's project! Here's one example: https://rennlist.com/forums/993-forum/162202-a-few-more-humpty-dumpty-pictures.html
More realistically, you will find threads by confirmed weight loss junkies such as poorb0yw giving breakdowns of each item and how much weight it saved.

no i'm more interested in buying 'factory lightened' car - something along the lines of an m3 csl - but a 993. aka a 'who cares about creature comforts this is a performance product' car.

I believe you are referring to the 993RS, which never made it to our shores. There are several "cloned" RS's in the US, however that have been taken to extremes of detail. Ever heard of an RS windshield washer reservoir?

oh. what about the previous generation (964) - same story there? i've had one project car too many recently to invite a 'conversion' that's for sure! i just want something very track-oriented that i can get in, turn the key, drive, change oil + brake pads... reliable, SIMPLE, modern-ish (i don't particularly care for the pre 964 cars aesthetically, mainly the interior)... but i don't care much about stuff like a sound system, or heated / power seats etc.

There is a 964 RS America model that you could look into.
