Post Track Trailer for 993

For those of interest.
I'm now ready to load tires, jack, tools, etc. I plan to buy one of those light aluminum tool boxes you see on pickem up trucks and bolt it to the bed....
I have a few more pictures as well as close-ups of the hitch but the pictures are to large to upload..

Don,

What do you do when your car breaks at an event?

Kary;

Very good question... I'll have to give that some thought. Anyways, no other way to get track tires to the track, other than driving on them...

The reason I asked is because I went through the delima (sp?) as well. I carried them on the roof, I had people transport them, I drove on them, and then I finally bit the bullet and bought a car hauling enclosed trailer. Yes, I realize this is an investment, but it is really cool and makes going to track events sooooo easy!

Hope this works out for you!

Don,
I have a track trailer I haul behind my C4S, works out well having tools and tires all ready to go in the trailer.
Couple things to watch out for, I learned the hard way. Don't put too much tongue weight on the back of your 993, the rear wheels will tow out and wear out the inside edges of your tires. Cost me a set of SO2's going to Atwater CA last year.
Also the speed limit when towing a trailer is usually the truck speed limit which is 10mph lower than the car limit in many places. Got lucky at 16mph over the truck limit, State Patrol only gave me a warning.
Good Luck Racing

Don, Jack:

Any idea of how much weight you are towing when fully loaded behind the car? Just curious...I use my 993 as a daily driver and having a small trailer might be useful when I make a trip down to the Home Depot for a sheet of plywood or whatever, if not for for the looks I would get!! ;-) I guess I can always turn the PSS-9's on "1" to firm up the rear!

Jack;

Thanks for the advice. Its long enough so I think I will be able to move things around so I keep just a bit of tongue weight on the hitch.

Mike;
The hitch is rated for a total of 1000 lbs. I would bet the trailer empty is about 200-300. I have yet to use it. I will try to weigh it when fully loaded.

Don:

Is your hitch totally bolt-on? If it is, then we could install your hitch on the back of my car in the event you had a car problem at the track. You would still need to get your car home but, I could get the trailer home for you. Just a thought.

Ted;

The install requires the bumperetts to be removed and two 7/16" holes to be drilled. I don't think it will work.

Thanks for the offer...

I thought the installation was a bolt on with no holes to be drilled. I guess it won't work on my car since I don't have the bumperettes. The PO had some bumper work done and deleted them front and back. I did look underneath...the frame of the car is certainly hard to get to!

I dont have a Porsche, but on the Vette, the hitch/utility trailer is an awesome idea if you do many track events.

I got my hitch from http://www.hitch-web.com and is a DaLan hitch... same as you guys, holes needed to be drilled.
