Hey guys, I'm thinking a So Cal group outing of a different kind, a new flavor, a twist! A road trip taken over the course of a weekend, or if you workoholics can take a friday and/or monday off, a 3 or 4 day road trip... see the true colors of the state we live it...Of course, lots of beautiful fall foliage driving, but other activities can be done as well... lodging etc in nice places... Seems like a blast to me!

OG - I do remember your reply and I think you were going-up on other weekends. I had a narrow window of time between business trips and could only make it that weekend. I did think of you as we cruised by Ridgecrest. Sorry.
The Tioga "gas station" is quite well known. Locals from Bishop, Mammoth, and other communities make the 45 min - hour drive to go there for dinner. A pretty unique place.
Although nice, Calif colors are pretty wimpy by right coast standards. There must be some east coast guys that can show us some dramatic colors as far as the eyes can see.

Don Although I was in the Nashua NH and Portland ME area last tue,wes and thurs, and the leaves
ARE spectacular, I prefer the sheer vertical of the Sierras and the golden Aspens.
But the NE coast was in full bloom thats for sure!

Yea, the thin line of Aspens up the drainages is spectacular. Little groves high on the slopes are really neat. Mammoth does not have many deciduous trees, but the June Lake loop had some great color.

Very nice pictures!!
During my holidays in 2001, I drove through the South of the Sierra, leaving the 395 south of Little Lake to the Sherman Pass and Camp Nelson. Twissties, twissties, twissties!! Unfortunately in a Blazer
