Post Replacement Speakers for HiFi Sound Option

I want to replace the speakers in the front door panels of a 1995 993 that I'm going to purchase. The car had a "HiFi Sound" option. I believe there are actually two speakers in the lower door panel beneath the grab handle.

Does anyone know what sizes these speakers are?

Keith;

Tweeter is 3.12" outside diameter
Woofer is 5.15" outside-side to side
5.65" bolt hole to bolt hole diagonally

Keith, I'd love to hear more about your project. I have a '96 with the HiFi system as well, and I'd like to upgrade each part in order to have a middle-of the road system. I'm no audiophile by any means, and I don't want to spend a fortune either.

Not sure what speakers make good replacements given the sizes of the door and rear deck speakers (not sure if the rear speakers are odd-sized). Would also include replacing the CR-210 head unit...after a week of ownership I've given up on it ever being a long-term answer. The form factor and performance are poor. I don't know anything about the Nokia amp, but I assume it might also need to be upgraded.

The rear deck speakers are 4x6 according to a local audio shop these are considered European 4x6 speakers and there are a limited number of higher end manufacturers that make such a size. I know MBQuart does if you like the sound of their speakers. A good source of information and suggestions for upgrading is Rod Birch at http://www.caraudioinnovations.com/

I second the suggestion of contacting Rod Birch. I've had very good experience with him on advice both from the site and via email. Excellent service regardless of my location, I won't be much of a customer for him.

I found a set of Boston Acoustics FX7e rear deck 4x6 speakers works well with the factory grilles and fittings. I posted a detailed note on this upgrade in the last month or so. That post includes my front upgrade as well, but I don't have the Hifi. Notably all the factory speaker edges had degraded to dust! in 5 years of dry desert heat.

Enjoy, Nol
