My first ever track day by SlOW-LD GUY or How to upgrade your sway bar

Evan - It was my pleasure. Great meeting you. Any word on getting your GT2-1/2 made into a full GT3? BTW, I ordered the Motorsport brake ducts. We should have them in a few days. I plan to take some pics to compare with the standard GT3...

Jauder,
WOW. What an adventure. Some questions on my part:
Someone has a tire-mount machine at the track, able to handle 285 size tires/rims?
How long did it take to change the tires each time? My tire shop takes 45 minutes minimum. At that rate, your track day is blown.
Likewise for bleedning brakes, half hour minimum?
How much did all these cost? One thing about tracking, I probably need to budget $1k per event (entry fee, lodging, food/drink, tirs/brakes/rotors, etc.) While I can probably afford the $1k/event, I can ill afford the alimony as well. Since you do an event every other week, that's like $25k per year as is.
But that's some adventure you had at Button Wilows. Please keep thr stories coming.

I enjoyed CJ waiting for me to go out onto the track in blue one time. He came out of the pits just behind me, like he was stalking me... He must have had a mechanical as I never saw him again in my rear view mirror, even on my out lap on the slicks. I was intimidated though for a couple of minutes....

Pong I was just making reference to things that got installed this weekend AT the track. Not
before the track, AT the track.
before the track, AT the track.

CP,
Let me put the costs into perspective.
o Lodging at the fabulous Super * resort: $40.
o Food: $25.
o Yes they can handle really big tires, and they have some really nice tire mounting equipment. They dismounted and patched my 295x30x18 rear for $16.
o Plenty of time between run groups for bleeding brakes and other minor adjustments.
o Tire wear? my guess is 10% of your tread life per full track day.
o Pad wear? my guess is about 20% of pad wear per full track day
o Fuel? about one full tank per day... 100 octane available at the track for $5 or $6 per gallon.
o Entry fee? Varies by event and how many days you are running. average is about $200/day.
My sloppy math says the true cost is about $500 per track day, plus the cost of fuel to get there.
OK? See you at the next one?

So a two-day event will be about $1k as I thought. Thanks for the accounting though.
I will do an event in the future. I can only that after my safety items (steering line, master cylinder etc.) are done. Knowing Viperbob, there may be more up-grade opportunities along with that one.

you know you are tempted. you know OG and stever down south is pulling you and pin/me/bob up north is coaxing you as well. you should try it and you will get addicted. i don't bother drivign on street anymore.
Let me reply for jauder, he’s probably dead tire from 3 days of track, man what a wimp. I once did 4 day straight 800 track miles plus 600 of driving back and forth b/n home and track.
BW has a tire shop and carries hooseir and toyo among other things. They can mount (on weekdays) I don’t know where jauder got his donuts from though.
Bleeding the brake? if you do it by the book jacking up all fours so you can do RR, LR, RF, LF (996 that is) it takes 40 min max. if you cheat and jack up one side at a time and bleed RR, RF, the jack up the other side to do LR, LF it take 30 max. changing pads with the eagle day tool, 10 min per corner max.
no, it’s not 1k per event. It depends what you define as an ‘EVENT’ one day two days or three days or four days for those that are insane like kim.
steve’s est. on cost is about right. I use a bit more wear tear items as I do about 200 miles a day and often 300 miles. So I chew up about 40% of pad’s life. I run 92 oct but I need 3-4 tanks for one day.

Mooty,
You are EVIL.
I think I'll do at least one event just for the experience, but doubt (hoping is more like it) that I won't be addicted. I can't afford the time (away from work and or home). I really need to retire soon.

my humble suggestion is to start next year with tracquest. they have lots of instructors and have far less OTE's, email me to discusss if you like, than just about any other groups. i say next year b/c the only even they have left is at sears point. and that's not a place to start tracking as it's technical, narrow and walls EVERYWHERE. start with BW or TH. take it easy and have bob give you some pointers, you will be smiling all day long!

Lalalalalala. I dont want to know how much things cost this weekend. I got new pads, rs mounts installed, transmission fluid flushed, tires taken off, tires dismounted, tires remounted, multiple tanks of 91 and 100 octance fuel, hotel etc etc etc.
The experience of hanging out with rennlisters and having a ton of fun: Priceless.
