Post RSR mufflers lighter than Fabspeed?

Hi Folks,

I just got my RSR mufflers (thanks Robin!) and was going to put them on, but decided to let my race shop do it as the car is in already for Evo 2 and harness installation. They have the Fabspeed mufflers for the 993 in the showroom and have been trying to get me to put them on my car, but I wanted to try the RSRs first.

I took the RSRs to the shop this morning and compared them to the Fabspeeds. While the RSRs are physically larger, they seem to weigh the same or less, which surprised me. I was under the impression that one of the benefits of most aftermarket mufflers was lighter weight. Now I do admit that the Fabspeeds look great, but you can't really see them on a 993 anyway.

The guys in the shop do think that I might gain a few HP using the Fabspeeds, but they don't have any evidence. If I could be sure that I would gain some HP with the Fabspeeds, I'd take the plunge, but paying for a couple of dyno runs "just to see" seems kind of silly to me.

Note that I'm not bashing Fabspeed, and I hope that the Fabspeed haters on this board can restrain themselves. I would like to hear from others who have actually tried them out, and whether or not they were truly better. It seems to me that the 993 has been around long enough that there would be some reasonable evidence as to the benefits or drawbacks of aftermarket mufflers, without people getting personal.

Skip,
There is a HP gain with SuperCups, Bill,Chicago did the upgrade to his race car, while the car was on the engine Dyno, the pipes showed a 10hp gain at the FW (this will be less at the wheels). There is a archive post you can look up to see the dyno runs. I just bought a used set Supercups to go along with my RSR's.
Supercups for the summer track season, RSR's for the rest of the year. You cant go wrong with Robins set up, the sound is great!

Kim,
Good catch, no way would the Super Cups weigh as much as the RSR's My info is regarding the Supercups not the MaxFlow. I have no data on hp gains with MaxFlows but I'm sure Joe will jump in here to tell us! Sorry for any confusion...
