I have searched the archives etc.
I just sent an email to PIAA and got a response back that they are coming out with an Xtreme White H1 bulb for our cars. I thought there were already some out there, but may be mistaken
Any thoughts?
What are the best bulbs out there without going to HIDs?
Thanks,

I have Philips bulbs for the lows and they seem somewhat brighter than the old halogens. I also upgraded the high beams to 100 watt bulbs I bought from Performance. I didn't see a dramatic difference but it was brighter. I think you can only run the 100 watts for a limited time due to the higher heat.

I'd buy the Philips VisionPlus H1 55W bulbs or, when they are available in H1, Sylvania (Osram) SilverStar halogens. However, neither holds a candle to HID.

I think the non-HID's are fine, although, yes, brighter is always better. I even have 6" diameter, 120 watt flame-throwing driving lights on the 4Runner to augment the truly horrible stock high beams. And my '85 Carrera had two jars of lightning bugs for headlights; very dim and yellow. To me, the 993 headlights with the VisionPlus bulbs are more than adequate. 'Course, if I hadn't just dropped $3,000 for engine and suspension bits, I might be more likely to add the HID's.
