Angry Narrowbody cars with 225/40x18 & 285/30x18...what's your ride height?

I got my PSS-9 installed, without the Turbo sways bars...handles great (discussion on all that is another thread). Also got the Front Protection Bar installed and I'm not sure if I like the way it looks from the front...my car is black and it kinda stands out a bit. I expect the sways and the protection will be for sale real soon.

Anyway, the car is now "lowered" and honestly I was expecting a good bit lower. He set the height between ROW and ROW Sport settings. Measured from the ground straight up through the center cap to the lowest part of the fender lip, here is what is is set to (diffrence from original in parenthesis): LF=25.875”(.25), RF=25.875”(.5), LR=25.75”(.25), RR=25.875”(.375).

My mechanic was saying that the lower it gets, the more difficult the alignment becomes. Also, I have the 285/30x18 rears, ans I'm concerned about scrubbing. The cars profile looks better, as the front no longer seems to be "sticking up in the air"...the car has a downward rake to it now. What does everybody else with my setup (narrowbody, 18" wheels, etc.) have for height?

FWIW, I've got the HD Bilsteins w/18s & I'm about a 1/4" higher in front. My rears are 265 (a 1/4" larger radius than your 285s) & I'm at about your fender height.
The FPB on my black coupe also stood out. I thought about having it powder coated black or simply wrapping it in black duct tape, but changed to a tt bumper on which it's barely noticeable (perhaps another option for you).
I would suggest you keep the FPB since I've had a couple of times when it did its thing - & my car is a bit higher than yours.

Allen,

I have fitted the PSS-9 kit to my '95 narrow body and was (until a few weeks ago) using 18" Turbo twists with 285x30x18's on the rear without any arch scrubbing. I've now switched to 18" 993RS replica wheels.

I have the height set to between Euro Sport and RS (117mm front and 134mm rear) using the chassis measuring points.

Checking it against your fender lip measurements my car is about 0.5 inches lower at the front and 1.0inches lower at the rear. Find a pic here... http://www.porscheboy.plus.com/mchome.html

The shop I used had no problem setting RS alignment all round.

Hi Mark--That's exactly the height I'm shooting for with my new suspension.

Do you have any issues with clearance on normal roads and driveways? Do you drive your car daily?

Allen--you car looks good, but I can understand wanting it a bit lower

Hi Allen,

I run PSS-9/RS bars/monoballs, 18" Carrera wheels with 225/40 & 285/30, RS ride heights and alignment on my '96 C4 narrow body, no problems at all. Wheel arch heights 24.75" front, 24.25" rear.

Allen,

Here's mine (PSS-9, monoballs/camber plater, RS sways & 18" wheels):

I haven't measured the height yet but as you can see it's quite a bit lower than yours (looks to be very close to what John has).

Also, fender lip is propably ok reference point when you compare cars to another but I think it would be better (more accurate since hand assembly of 993 body) to measure it from the suspension's lowest point, where factory manuals say it to be taken.

Allen, Yes no problem with 18" Turbo Twists with the standard 65mm offset.

Chris, it's not an EVERYDAY daily driver but is used regularly during our spring/summer/autumn (fall) months, it just hibernates over the winter.
The ride height is rarely a problem, you just need to be ready to negotiate some of the more severe pavement ramps (into fuel stations etc) at snails pace. Multi-story car parks are probably the most awkward places.

Both JohnM and FF's cars are a good 0.5inch lower than mine (and even below RS height) so you can definately go lower without arch/alignment issues.

Kristoffer...It is your fault I'm is this situation to begin with I remember very clearly seeing your car (that very same picture) and that's when the trouble began I went out and got 18" twist wheels like yours. I had the wheels right, but my car was still way higher than yours. So I had to go and get new suspension and lower my car. Now it's still not as low as yours...and it doesn't look near as good as yours...now I got to get it even lower, and another alignment to go with it. I'm begging you...please...take your car...go away from me...in the name of all that is righteous and sane...leave me be
