I was at the pelicanparts forum and someone called the new 350Z a "super sports car". When did this "super" status develop?
Granted, I have read most of the reviews, most recently, Road and Track (I believe) where the Z was pitted against an M3, vette and 996 Targa. The Z has, by far, the most bang for the buck but "super"?
With that being said, for under $30K, the new Z would be my second choice for a sports car...after a "super" pre-owned 993!

It definitely is a "super" deal in a sports car. I prefer the look of the G35 coupe more though.
That review was pretty interesting. Had all my friends coming to me and saying the Z is a Porsche beater.

Hmmm, have not driven one but sat in it during that last auto show. Did not like the visiblity at all especially to the rear. The rear window is like a small slit...I guess the idea is you should not care what is behind you!
I really like the seating position in my 993...the windshield is very close and the slender pillars make it easy to see down to the corners. The car fits me at 6' like a glove...but I did not get that feeling with the 350Z. Maybe I need to test drive it.
My second choice of car if I did not have the 993? I would be a Cooper S with a Works Package. No low end grunt but a car that is a lot of fun to drive...and unique to boot!
I do like Nissan (my wife has a Pathfinder) but I agree, the G35 coupe is pretty good as well. I drove that car...it really goes!

In the article, I don't think the Z was superior in any objective category. Come to think of it, it didn't win any subjective ones either, except the best bang for the buck.
I don't think there is a single rennlister who would trade in their 993 for a new Z.

a new z would be cheaper to own than a 993.
Having said that all I have ever done to mine is change the oil.
I think porsches are an aquired taste. Not everybody see the point.
I have had 50 people why I have 2 of the same car.

I try not to generalize like a silly reactionary, and try not to make my purchasing decisions based on whether or not I agree with a government's policy. Hell, if I did, I would refuse to buy anything American.

"...Nissan's parent company is Renault, right ? No french related product for me. They are our enemy..."
this smells like Germany in 1939. Back then it was easy for them too to distinguish "friends" from "enemies".

well.....the bar has moved for these cars. the 350Z, the M3, the new S4, and the new C32 AMG.
they all have numbers that match or slightly eclipse the 993 at about $20,000 less.
is it fair to say that the 993, being about 5-7 years old, is amazing in its ability to hang with these cars having 50 hp more?
or is it fun to watch as these GT cars at $50k can give a lot of people a lot of fun and almost match 911 performance? i'm all for it as it pushes Porsche.

Kim,
You know that you have to "pay to play."
Somewhere in the neighborhood of 6 figures for a seat in that one. Its meant to run with the GT3 RS. <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" />

Just an opinion, but the Honda S2000 gets very little credit for what it can do, and how it handles. Low torque, sure, but nail it and it goes, and it is one fun car. You can get new ones for just under 30 (if you will travel), and a great used one for 25-26, more miles and low 20s. Hard to beat for the bones. No cowl shake, rack solid soft-top.
Yes, I have had one for a while now, and am biased, but I bought it after looking at lots of cars. IF you want an inexpensive and true sports car, you ought to drive one extensively.
