Default got my rs short shift kit installed....

got my rs short shift kit installed.... what a difference!!! this is a must upgrade. my gearbox feels a lot better. i was somewhat surprised the the shift lever sits higher now (seems counter to what you'd expect with a short shift kit). but the shifting is considerably faster, feels very tight, and does NOT take more force than before.

nice upgrade.

thanks viperbob!!!

Cheers,
Boris

Boris,

Was that the shifter and rod? Did you get the parts through VB or did he do the install? Was the install easy/hard?

Thanks... been really considering this mod as I don't like the way my car shifts.

One last Q... how much was it?

kelly,

yes i got it from VB. the parts were roughly $110. It took him about 1:15 mins to install. Not a very hard install, but if you don't have a lift it would be a real pain.

Cheers,
Boris

Boris

I am getting the same from VB with the 2WD conversion, would you have any pics of how high the lever is now? I am considering a Cargraphic GT2 racing alu shifter just because it stands really high and closer to the steering wheel, and would like to compare it vs the one you installed.

Thanks.

Any links for more information? Sounds like a pretty good upgrade for that price. I'm really surprised at how inexpensive that is.

Boris,
Did this include the shift rod, or just the shifter ?

I just ordered from Gert (www.carnewal.com), order in last Thursday, got the parts (+ a spare DME relay) yesterday (Monday). He seems to check email late at night too, he's a dedicated guy!

Planning to install myself, instructions don't look too bad.

for those of you thinking of this mod, do get the rod with the solid u joint link. This will give you a solid/positive when shifting into gears. The stock one has a rubber link to give you that 'soft' feel.

I also cut off about an inch or so on the RS shifter itself so it would not be as high. The idea was to place the shifter closer to the steering wheel but I like the shorter look and feel.

By the way, if the shifter is higher, is the leather gaitor (or whatever it's called) big enough to cover it? How much higher is it?

Troy,

I worried about that too when I did mine. But there is enough slack in the leather bootie to accomodate the taller shifter position from the RS short shift kit. In one gear (6th or reverse?), the bootie is stretched just a little bit, but not enough to cause it to rip over time or look ugly. The short shift kit is a great mod - well worth the money.

Cool! Thanks for the info, as I'm putting this on my Xmas list. So tell me, why did you not install the shaft?
