Question Best place to buy Porter Cable 7424?

I was looking here per my search. Is this a good price? Anyone know anywhere else to pick up one of these?

Jonathan - AFAIK, Coastal is the best deal. Post if you find someplace better.

That's where I bought mine also. I subsequently heard that Lowe's has the base tool (which is actually a sander) for $89.95, and then you have to add the plate, pads etc. but I never followed up as I was no longer in the market.

It is a great tool.

Jon-

I got mine from Coastal as well. Great tool... just be sure to order some velcro pads from another vendor as it only comes with 1 fixed pad in their kit.

Good luck

Thanks for the input!!

Hey Kelly - Do you mean the 6" Hook & Loop (Velcro) Contour Backing Pad (part# 18002) or the lamb's wool pad?

Jon-

I'm talking about a variety of velcro pads that you stick onto the part# 18002.

Jon-

NP, I found this pad business a bot overwhelming myself when I was doing my shopping.

I actually bought these pads... a few in each color.

http://store.yahoo.com/tolae/lake-co...sher-pads.html

I use them w/ 6" terry bonnets I bought from Walmart and sometimes use them as is as a foam pad.

Let me know if I'm being clear.

Jonathan,

It's probably cheaper to buy the base unit (either PC 7335 or 7336) at your local Lowe's for $90-100 as was mentioned. That's what I did. Per Dan's Autopia link above, this unit is exactly the same as the 7424, it just doesn't include the buffing pad attachment. Since you'll probably want to buy these separately anyway to make sure you've got the right assortment of pads for different polishes etc, I figured there was no point paying the extra $20 for a pad I wouldn't use. Plus you get the instant gratification of not waiting for the tool to arrive. Instead you have to wait for the pads. Grrr.

My wife gave me the Porter Cable from Coastal last year for Christmas. The one white pad that comes with the PC is the screw in type that requires a wrench to change out...plus it's for general purpose use. Haven't used it. I went out to Autopia and ordered the velcro backed base and several pads with different cutting capabilities. You can change these easily or remove for cleaning by just pulling them off. If you buy the base machine, then add the necessary attachments and pads for auto car, it's probably cheaper overall.

Just in case anyone is still interested, I noticed that Autopia is running a Group Buy on a Porter Cable Random Orbital with Buffing pad for $99. plus shipping. Pretty good deal!

Check this THREAD.
