Post 1995 3.8l EPE Carrera...What do you think?

Hey guys, i'm new here! <img border="0" alt="[byebye]" title="" src="graemlins/wave.gif" />

I'm in the market for a 993...C2S, C4S, narrow body...whatever catches my eye!

Any opinions on this car?

VIN: WP0AAZ990SS322286. Perfect Polar silver paint with black partial leather and only 28,000 miles. This one owner car was well equipped when delivered with Am/Fm/Cassette, power leather embossed sport seats, 17" Cup wheels with painted center caps, limited slip with ABD, and on board computer. Tastefully enhanced during it's ownership with the Porsche Tech Art Aero II kit including a rear wing, side skirts and Euro front bumper and lenses, it is now powered by a European Performance Engineering built 3.8 liter engine installed at 24,500 miles with Varioram induction producing an estimated 300 horsepower. Additional mechanical upgrades include a competition flywheel with new clutch, custom chip, ZUC power cone air filter, full Cup type suspension, big red Turbo front brakes and an additional set of Fikse 8.5" and 10" x 17" wheels with new Toyo RA-1's. An incredible street or drivers ed car, it has been meticulously cared for by EPE since new with a pro-active maintenance schedule including frequent oil changes with M-1 and AFP-600 brake fluid. Flawless inside and out as well as mechanically, the car has never seen a Winter or smoke, has always been garaged, and comes with a full front custom bra, mirror covers, Technalon car cover and all records, manuals and tools for $58,500.

Opinions?

Thanks

-Jarrett

That's a lot of money for a modified car ... particularly for a 95. Someone spent a lot of money setting that car up like that, but in most cases modifications don't add a lot to the ultimate sales price.

Check the Rennlist classifieds for other cars; you can get a very nice 95 for considerably less than $58.5k!

I agree. The mods will make this car less desirable when you go to sell it.

There is a reason auto manufacturers spend millions in development. It takes that much to sweat out all the bugs in R&D.

I would not buy such a heavily modified car.

Err.. I'm not sure which modifications sacrifice reliability?

I agree, the price is a bit high, but I have to get rid of my 2k2 996 Cab. in order to get a 993... i.e. trade-in.

I generally dont like buying with too much modifications done to an engine unless we are talking about a fully sorted RUF conversion or something a bit simpler like a TPC supercharger.

When I had my 964 I spent a considerable sum of money modifying it but all I ended up with was a rather unreliable, hard to drive car....I ended up putting the whole thing back to original before selling it--&gt;unless its breathed over by a knowledgeable mechanic with top dog reputation I'd be weary...if it can be verified that EPE is top dog in installation, then it may be worth a look, otherwise, I'd rather go stock.

From what i've heard and read, European Performance Engineering is the best Porsche shop in its area.

THe engine doesn't sound like its built to the teetering edge of performance/reliability with a quoted output of 'only' 300hp.

Doesn't any of you guys buy such cars that give you most satisfaction?!

It seems that all you think "what's the next owner after me might think of it?"

I have quite a bit modifications that I've done, and will do a lot more! If car with modification I want would've been available when I bougt mine, I'd been happy!

I could not care less if I don't get (which I won't) my money back what I've spent for mods, I've done them becasue that makes me enjoy my car more (suspension, some engine etc.) not what the next car in line thinks of them! Besides, only person complaining my mods after I stop driving with this car will be my son (although I doubt he will) because this car will be mine forever, no matter what I buy next.

So, Jarret,

If you're into mods & think that you'd do those same, price doesn't sound that bad anymore.

Price still is a bit too much maybe, try to get it closer to $50 and it starts to sound better.

I would estimate the value of the modifications to be somewhere near $20k (with installation, including wheels, etc)...but I'm contacting the seller tomorrow to end this mad speculation.

Anyone know of other good-condition 993's for sale through a dealer or through a private owner looking for trade?

i think those guys are lucky if they get $49k for that car. maybe $45k.

i'm betting those are 28,000 tough and hard miles and the 3.8litre conversion is no cakewalk. that it is expensive to install does not mean that it is expensive to buy after some sucker ponied up $12k to get the engine work done.

if you are going to spend $58000 on that car, you might as well find an extra $10-12k and get a 993tt which, from day one, has been engineered in every respect for that added power in terms of driveline, brakes and cooling.

I think High $40's to $50K would not be unreasonable for the car. If you wanted to buy a 95 and do the upgrades yourself you would be right in the same area. Very nice car, being a 3.8 I would take it over a C2S any day of the week. Just my .02

I agree with FF that you should buy a car for you and not the future owner.

So...is it the original motor that's been bored out? If not, why was a new motor put in? Has the car been wrecked or did the owner just zing the original engine? Also, will your mechanic or area shops be able to knowledgeably service the 3.8 motor? (I dunno, maybe those extra .2 of a liter won't make a bit of difference.)

The car looks very pretty and tastefully bejeweled. But is it just me or does it look like the driver's side of the hood doesn't line up too well with the bumper cover or edge of the fender? Before you jump, be sure to get a good independent PPI and have the body, along with mechanicals, thoroughly checked. Performance Products sells a magnetic paint gauge that can help determine if there is any new paint or filler on the car.

$58,500 seems like some serious coin for a 1995 car. That kind of money will buy you a turbo.

After looking closer at the car $58 is pretty pricey I would by a TT if you can find one for that which I think if you look on Ebay you will find one.

That car has been there for a long time (3-6 months al least. They list their cars from newest listing to oldest and the price has not gone down since it was originally listed. I would think there is lots of room for negotiation unless it is a consignment and the owner doesn't need to sell.
