5 hp at the end of a long straight can make all the difference.

It all adds up, especially if the 5 hp is part of six other 5 hp improvements.

Mark, Mark, Mark,

I wondered why you pulled me down the back straight at VIR everytime.

Once you have picked all the low hanging fruit, 5hp for $500 would be a bargain.

John,

Running 0W-10 weight oil has its advantages.

You weren't at VIR this weekend with Potomac, were you? It was a tad hot but a very productive three day DE for me.

No my car is still in a semi crushed state. I am thinking I may take the 328IS down for the Fall Fling just to get back on the track. I do plan on doing 6-8 club races next year however. Waiting for a ruling on the remote reservoir shocks before we tear into the suspension this winter.

You wont feel 10HP, none the less 5HP, and for $500, I rather go visit some hookers and feel something better!

Agreed. Knock 10% off the weight and add 10% power and you get a 22% higher power:weight ratio, which you definitely can feel.

Little mods like this help you get there without major modifications

Well, it all adds up. A number of small changes, like Robert's drain plugs, and pretty soon you're talking a real peformance increase. Just depends how competitive you want to be.

We wouldn't be very smug about losing 5HP. How about losing 10HP? Every little bit counts. But on the other hand, how much would I pay for 5 HP? If I had lots of spare cash, I'd do it.

graham had the right idea here. i've now stripped out 220lbs of my 993. i can tell you it made a huge difference. to me adding 5 rwhp is somewhat analgous to stripping out another 50lbs. and that is real real hard!

as i've told robert - get me one quick!!!

cheers,
boris

Boris, I knew you'd understand

standard Carrera - 199hp/kg (272hp/empty DIN weight)
modified Carrera - 243hp/kg (with 10% less weight and 10% more power)
standard Turbo - 272hp/kg (408hp/empty DIN weight)

The combination of modest weight removal and power gain increases power:weight by more than half the gap between the NA and Turbo cars.

To me, it'll make a difference if it's a 5rwhp difference over most of the power curve (as opposed to upping peak a little), and if it adds 5hp on top of the other 'standard' mods for the 993.

$100 per HP -- the cost for RS 3.8 cams, NOT including installation. 12 HP gain.

1997 3.6 Varioram/3.8 RS cams/Ti retainers & Aase springs/Weiner ECU/B&B headers/Flowmaster/330 hp & 292 lb tq
