Ummm, guys, I think most of us were just kidding about buying RL's doodad. You know, as in a tongue-in-cheek joke?

I agree that engine mods can work against each other, but since we're talking about a vaporous, ill-defined piece of equipment hypothetically combined with a series of other unknown changes, objectivity would dictate that there is a chance they will have the desired effect and there is a chance they will not have the desired effect.

I am starting to wonder!! Is everyone this gullible? 5hp... And you can feel it? And lap times are improved?

****, Ill start making parts, and selling them for $500 a pop too. I mean, after all, if I can make a 2 litre motor make 600 Wheel Horsepower on an AWD dyno, which equates to waaay over 750 crank, then I must be able to make 5hp piece for a 993. Also in term of weight, you can replace many parts with chromoly or aluminum and make the car lighter.

The parts that Robert Linton has been showing us were never meant to be offered for sale. He knows the gearheads we all are would appreciate what he is doing with his project car in terms of proving alternative (and cost prohibitive) methods for weight reduction etc. I dont recall Robert ever offering any of this stuff for sale, per se. I feel lucky enough to afford to look at those components

5hp may be enough to feel, but one has to assign a value to the cost/HP ratio. Typical A/C systems robb 4hp when 'on', I can sure feel that. FWIW

No offense guys, but allow me to quote the king of CF from the post that started this thread:

So it seems like he may be changing his tact.

And Mark, I kind of disagree with your last post. I bet if RL were to offer CF lugnuts for the 993 a bunch of rennlisters would pony up to save 2 ounces of unsprung weight. Imagine what would happen if he sold a 5hp part for $500. Half of the 993 board would be clamoring for it and posting how much faster the car is with it.

EJ, I should have mentioned, until Robert posted about the 5hp upgrade, his stuff was never offered for sale. Still tired from a hard weekend

Fair enough, E.J. Okay, let me re-phrase that: I was just kidding about buying RL's doodad.

I've spent enough money on my car for club racing. My best lap time gains will be from learning how to be a better driver.

Actually, I've found that a couple human growth hormone pills before a track event can help you temporarily grow a bigger set of *****. I managed to drop over four seconds off of my best times at VIR last weekend, but now the damn sub strap is getting to be a pain.

To clarify, I still do not sell parts to retail customers. Cartridge makes parts for manufacturers and, sometimes as a courtesy, sells certain parts directly to race teams. The part I mentioned in this thread is not intended to be sold by Cartridge and my only role has been in design and manufacture. As to the comment about prototypes, I am making them not for sale but for testing and then a decision, not by me, will have to be made as to whether or not they are sold. Finally, I floated a price because I was interested in people's reaction -- personally, I believe that $100 per HP is a very good price.

I enjoy Robert's posts with CF dodads. I appreciate that none of them are ever likely to make it to my track car.

I'm a bit surprised at the strident responses that denegrate 5 hp for $500. There a lot of folk who have spent close to that amount for a new chip in a '95 or to reprogram a '97 or '98 ECU or (god forbid) buy a '97 ECU and have it reprogrammed to go into a '96. If you disregard the changes in the torque curve, the hp per dollar for a 3.8L upgrade isn't that great either. However, we don't heap crap at people who sell chips and question the cost benefit and we don't tell people who do a 3.8L upgrade they are wasting their money. Why abuse a guy who says he may have a new gadget that will provide 5 hp and is willing to provide dyno data? We all have the choice to buy or not buy the various mods available.

Ladies & Gentlemen:

I'm not selling anything. Nor, frankly, do I want to. Nor have I posted to sell anything at the retail level -- and, equally candidly, venomous comments such as some of those above are one of the reasons why.

Yes but you IMPLY that SOMETHING is to be sold SOMETIME from SOMEONE that produces 5 horsepower (and costs around $500). Is that about it?

(statement above all in good humor of course Robert )

Robert,

I would be happy to test your products when they are available. I would also be more than happy to distribute any of your products in the future... Please keep me in mind...

Thanks
