Question Cigar(ette) lighter question

Is the cigar(ette) lighter supposed to light up?

There was a previous thread on this topic:
https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...cigarette+bulb

Someone mentioned that there was no thread for a light but that's not true. Also, the symbol in the cap is translucent, suitable for backlighting. I opened mine up and took a photo. Is there something missing?

Mine doesn't light up. I look at a few others, and neither do they. JFYI.

The lighter itself doesn't but the socket is lit.

Yes. Novice is correct. The socket itself is lit (when the lighter is out and left with emply whole).

One question/problem I do have is when plugging my V1 in the cigarette lighter, it doesn't fit and always pops out when hitting bumps. It fits fine in the BMW, so it's gotta be the 993. It seems the socket is too big for the V1 plug. Is there an adapter of some sort to keep it in?

Anyone else experience this problem?

yes there are little sleeves to put on that will make it fit tight. i believe this is a difference between standard and metric sizes. but most devices come with such a sleeve. look in your V1 packaging and you should find a little black sleeve.

Cheers,
Boris

Great. Thanks Boris! That definitely helps. If it's not there, i'll give V1 a ring.

Boris is correct, but you should just go ahead and do a hardwire install. Not that dificult and DIY instructions are on Robin's p-car.com site.

David,

I was thinking of it, but I swap it between my other car.

A hardwire mount still lets you detach the main unit...it's just a semi-permanent mount of the power wiring and remote display. The wiring is just RJ-11 telephone cable and you can make your own wiring if you buy a crimper..otherwise you can get spare wiring and a spare remote display from Valentine. The coiled power cable is a PITA and a big flag for any cop with a radar gun and for other drivers leeching off your radar.
