Default Curious how do you guys fair against e46 m3s??

Friend of mine recently got a 2002 e46 m3 and man that car is fast on the highway. Just wondering how an NA 911 compares in straightline speed. I know the Porches have less power but also way significantly less. Thanks for any input.

993 and E46M3 are fairly well matched on the track. Mods and driving will decide the outcome, although the 993 has a very clear advantage in that their brakes won't fade while the M3 will have to cut cession times so as to preserve them.

The MPower motors pretty much have torque everywhere and as such go NOW whenever you press the go pedal...the Pcars as we know need to be driven more in the sweet spot. Sadly the new M3s (and all BMWs now) are just way too heavy...they carry their bulk brilliantly, but even with lots of torque and perfect gearing (something our cars were robbed of) you can't hide the feelilng of mass.

A E46 M3 will most likely win a straight line race against a 993 NA, assuming drivers are equal etc. It won't win by a lot though.

On the race track a M3 is quick but not a match for a 993 due to the excessive weight, IMO.

I think our NA 993's do 0-60 in about 5.5 seconds, versus 4.8 for the M3...I have driven a friend's M3 extensively, and found it to be fast and portly. It just doesn't have the "fun" factor of a 993 and isn't as tossable...

The rumor mill is buzzing about the next generation M3, which is likely to have a V-8 to keep up with the Audi S4.

Sold my E46 M3 for my current 993 (after selling my old 993 for the M3)....993 is a better car all around...don't miss the M3 at all.

My neighbor had a 02' E46 M3 with SMG. Major engine failure and must be replaced. I feel bad for the guy, but at least it was a lease. He said he'll never buy BMW again.
