Need some help....just purchased a 1995 911 coupe. Looking for suggestions for street and DE events with the following:
- suspension
- exhaust
- Interested in 18" ---wheelsize and tire size
- air box systems
- brakes...leave stock
Suspension: anything from Bilsteins w/ M030 or H&R springs to PSS9 depending on your budget.
exhaust: Robins RSRs to Fabspeed Maxflows depending on your desire for sound
Wheels: wow! many good options. Depends on whether you want forged, multi-piece, etc... Probably 8" in front and 10" in back will work well. Tires should be somewhere in the 225/40 front 285/30 range. Quality wheels can come form: Kinesis, Fikses, Forgeline, HRE, etc...
Airbox system: cut out the side or drill some holes (save your money on other mods)
- suspension: PSS-9 or Motons, RS sway bars and better also get monoballs while at it.
- exhaust: Fabspeed Supercups (very loud) or RSR's.
- Interested in 18" ---wheelsize and tire size: 18"x8.5 (235 tyre) & 18x10.5 (275 tyre)
- air box systems: Drill the airbox (or buy used K&N cone filter from me...)
- brakes...leave stock: You can leave stock but get track pads and maybe some cooling.
here is a table for your benefit..
width profile rim size ride height (inches)
225 40 18 25.08661417
235 40 18 25.4015748
275 35 18 25.57874016
285 30 18 24.73228346
autox: to increase oversteer i run 245 (front) and 275 (rear)
track: to increase understeer i run 225 (front) and 285 (rear)
i feel this to be safer for a track setup, but in the tight corners of autox my setup really works! I just wish they made the 275 in a 30 series because i don't like the taller gearing (reduces torque).
Is the reason for 235 front 275 rear (as apposed to 225/285) to decrease oversteer (?)
thanks
As others have pointed out, it's to increase oversteer.
Obviously just a suggestion and based on my preferences. I rather have oversteer than understeer, undrsteer is safer and easier to handle so many folks actually prefer (little) understeer, but that's for you to decide what suits you best.
