Default WOW, new shocks!!

I had read all the posts about how short lived the factory shocks are. I didn't think I had any real problems with them. But, I decided to replace them with Bilsteins.

WHAT A DIFFERENCE!! I can't believe how much better the car handles and feels.

A very satisfying mod.

It really is amazing isn't it. Every customer that thinks that there is no way their car could be any better, change the suspension and they are ALWAYS shocked. But in a good way.

Now go out and drive you new car this weekend...

I would really love to upgrade my suspension and have been reading the threads that relate to this subject. I have decided on some Bilsteins and probably some HR coils. I don't want to compromise the ride too much but want better handling on the street and track with the lower posture that comes along with it.
My question is: Can I do this in stages. Can, or should, I put some shocks on first then add coils as my car budget allows? Or, do I need to do it all at once?
Any thoughts?

There are others more knowledgeable than I am, but I feel it is better to have a balanced set of suspension modifications all at once then just a one-at-a-time approach.

Cost to install, align, and corner balance is substantial. Don't do it twice. My recommendation would be to do it all at once, and in sync with a tire change if at all possible. In this way you can ammortize cost across a few maintenance/mod items.

Phil,
Ya see it's easier for me to justify spending more money on the car if I do it a little at a time. Funny how we play tricks on ourselves.

Father,
I guess each time you touch the suspension it must be realigned , eh? I read that corner balancing may not be necessary, is this true?

New springs are not very expensive, around $450/set for H&R springs. Often you can find some on ebay for around $200 if you are really price sensitive. Or someone on this list might have some ROW M030 or H&R or Eibach springs they would like to sell.

Whenever you change the ride height, you will need to re-align for sure. Corner balancing is not important for street use, but will give you a little bit extra at the track.

mnmblu,
I understand only too well... I just feel that the various suspension components should be part of a balanced set. Over here, Porsche specialists offer suspension upgrade packages with the various components harmonizing with each other. (I would also consider sway bars in the equation...)

BTW, LA Porsche Dismantlers had turbo sways for $100 each. Might as well add those to the list as well.

What is a ball park figure $ to install a new set of shocks and springs and maybe a sway bar while I am at it?

Hi Phil, Alright then, all at once it is!
Father, are turbo sway bars okay for a NA car?
