Question Central locking and interior light not working??

I am having a few problems with a 97 993. The battery went flat so was replaced, ever since the central locking does not work at all and there is no door opperated interior light. The light does work if you switch it to on but not from the doors. The alarm works (siren, lights flash etc) but the central locking is dead, no lights, noises or anything.

Please help, any suggestions/wirng diagrams anybody has would be very greatfully received.

Many thanks in advance,

Paul Arundale

I don't know this capability exists, again let me repeat, I don't know that your car has this ability but....

Assuming you have checked the fuses and relays etc, I am aware that in later cars some the these types of behaviors are programmable via an onboard computer. Dealer equipment required.

I wouldn't have believed this was available in 97, but if so, while you battery was out I suppose I could envision an circumstance where computer settings would get loopy.

Again, I didn't think Porsche did this until 996 series.

Don't know? Anybody know if 97 993 would have ecu controlled locking?
It does have a dealer fitted alarm under the drivers seat (RHD).
Thanks for the info William.

Have checked the dorr pin switches (in door pillars) both seems ok. Go to earth when open.
Does anybody know if there is another switch in the door lock mechanism which activaes courtesy lights and locking?

Paul and all, did you get your problem solved??? I have the exact problem with my 97C2S now. I tried wiggling the switches in the door jamb, but no lights (and remote will not work) Interior lights do work if they are turned on manually. Later, Max <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

I had the light problem but not the central locking problem (central locks worked) when I recieved my car 2 months ago ('96 C4S). It took the mechanic 2 hours to figure out the problem was a faulty contact in the trunk area which would not allow the CPU to sence everything was secure. Hope this helps!

Just came back from the porsche dealer. The mechanic says it is one of the two modules located under the passenger seat that controls the central locking/interior lights. part is on order. will post the actual part number and cost when/if this is the cure. Later, MAX

Is anyone experiencing abnormal current consumption as a result of your issues? This is most evidenced by a flat battery over a short period (3-5 days) of not driving the vehicle.

I had a previous post that discussed the battery drain issue and narrowed it down to 2 fuses. One of the fuses controlled the interior lights, but not the door locking mechanism.

If you have the factory immobilizer (most do) then the red LED's will flash quickly (2 flashes/sec?) immediately after the alarm is turned on. After 10 seconds they will go to a slower flash (~ 1 flash/sec). If there is a faulty pin switch, the red LED's don't light up AT ALL. That's usually a reliable way to determine if all your pin switches (both doors, front hood, engine compartment and glove compartment) are working correctly and being perceived as functional by the immobilizer.

Hope this helps.

My car has been fixed!! The dealer replaced the alarm control unit that resides under the seat. part # 928 618 260 03. I was told that this unit also has some control over the interior lights and light in the front trunk. Price was US$ 291. Umm?? How many electrical parts on my car start with "928" ?? I am a little nervous!! . later, MAX [img]http://boards.rennlist.com/upload/alarmunit.jpg[img]
