Porsche's made for purists ?
Mr Porsche was one of Hilter's friends who designed the Volkswagen for Adolf to sell to his masses. Deposits were taken en masse and used to fund the arming of the *****.
The Volkswagen went on to become the VW Beetle, which sold quite a bit.
Mr Porsche then went on to make his tractors, machinery, cars etc until his son designed the 911 shape.
The 911s were developed over 35 years to become the 993. I grew up with the 911 always there to be lusted after and finally ridden in ( for me in 1977 -carerra 3.0) then finally first ownership ( in 1988 a 1982 SC 3.0 ).
For me the 911 fascination finished with the 993. Whilst the 996s are undoubtably good modern sports cars in many ways, they are not a direct evolution of the 1963 911. Porsche makes the 996 in a modern, efficient, mass produced way and charges "hand built", 993 type prices -that is why they are so profitable. To me, the Cayenne fits right in with the current model range.
What perhaps should worry Posrche a little is that there will be dinosaur like customers out there like me who could spend money on the right kind of Porsche.
Saw a spy photo of the 2004 model 911 and surprise surprise, the front end looked a cross between a 993 and 959, now if they decided to use the GT3 engine, instead of that crappy mass produced thing, and got the weight down below 1250kg

First off, I am not an SUV fan. However, you need to read "Cars are my Life" by Ferry Porsche where even he suggests that the company build SUVs to maintain sufficent profit margin. As indicated by previous posts, Porsche AG is more than a sports-car company. It's just that everyone usually recognizes them from their primary business of selling sports cars.

Is there anybody left in this pathetic world who gives a sh*t about anything besides money...can the powers that be have such control over even the people on the 993 list?...
A hundred years from now somebody will be asking how those from the beginning of the 21st century simply rolled over and took it up the *** without even so much as a verbal protest...
You're all a bunch of wimps...intellectually spoon fed, conditioned by your financial portfolios, and totally unworthy to drive a 993...sell it to somebody who actually cares about something besides stainless steel sill plates and carbon fiber bullsh*t...
...and, have a wonderful day

TB993tt... please pull thy head from the sand
UK magazine EVO tested the following 911s (to establish which model had what they call EVOness, which appears to be a quality given to cars which all their staff consider to be the most entertaining all round drives)
911RS(1970s), 911clubsport (1988),911RS (1993), 911RS (1996), 911GT2 (1996),911GT3 (1999), 911turbo (2001), 911GT2 (2002).
The RS of 1970s won with the 964RS getting raved about. The 996s, which had been raved about in previous articles in this publication, were considered fakes compared to the earlier cars.
I briefly pulled my head out of the sand last weekend to drive my mate's new GT2 - nice... but not on the same planet as a raw, tuned 993.

TB993tt,
I just do not get it??? I drove several 993's prior to buying my 996, and have had the privilege to drive a 911sc, once. And IMHO, the 996 is a superior sports car to all past 911s. I do however think the 993c4s is the most beautiful car ever produced.
I want to make just enough money to drive a Porsche, drink 18 year Macallan, and smoke Padrons

Economics 101......you see there is this thing called a corporation.....and they prosper by making these little paper things called currency
Porsche is a business not a charity. Their goal is to maximize income. That's why they went away from air cooled cars forever.....and they are selling the crap out of 996s, and will do the same with the SUV.
