997 update
April 1.-s is over and everybody are still recovering from yesterdays joke regarding new 997 air-cooled 4,1 litre true sports car. But as many 993 owners are looking forward to make happen every wild wish in 997, we should make some update.

Spec
3,8 litre water-cooled flat six
350 hp (against 320 of 996)
PDK (Porsche Doppet Kuplung = Dual Clutch)
gearbox 6-speed
Speculation:
Less hard-core version will use Cayennes V8 (no joke!)
Additional data, comments and speculations most welcome!

I've heard more solid facts than speculation that the Cayenne engines, S and Turbo versions are slated for the 997. Things can change, but only time will tell what will actually be available for 2005 in the next 911!

That red car looks like the artist merged a 996 with the new Beetle.....

The nose is getting better (more 993/911-like), the horses are always welcome and long overdue, but it still doesn't do it for me without a little more shape to the body.

Since the 996, and presumably the 997 already have a wider track, front and rear, than the 993, maybe they are at maximum body "wideness" and there is no room to give it the classic 993 hips, ever?

I do like the looks of the 993's hips, but if we speak practically for a moment (since when are P-cars supposed to be practical, right), it makes alot more sense to just have a wider car ala 996, since that way you have better aerodynamics and more interior room to go with the wider track. The 993's shape gives a narrower interior (seats very close together) and a lower top speed, but I agree it's a beautiful design. Does anyone agree?

Hey preacher,
The choir is already seated, and you know the answer.
If the new one looks better than a 993 be prepared to ride value lower than the Japanese stock market.

What's the big deal with this 997 anyway? To me, it looks like a 996 with different headlights. It's still got the same "slab" sided body, or at least it looks so in the pic.
There will NEVER be a more beautiful 911 than the 993 (ok - I'm like, totally biased... totally <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> !)
I'm so happy - the wife just told me that we can take our first trip together in the 993 since I bought it in January. We're only driving it 3.5 hours to Ocean City, Md for the weekend, but it's a big success for me. She thinks it's more comfortable than my 88 911, and she would never want to be in my 88 for more than 30 minutes. She thinks she gets tossed around alot less than in my 88. Little does she know - I've been driving it like a baby every time she's in it lately, so she THINKS it's smoother. Haaaaaaaha. Can't wait to totally wind this baby out on the flat roads to the beach. Yehawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.

I like the look if they could just slightly bow the doors in to give the rear of the car a wider appearance that would make a big difference. As far as looking as good as a 993 it does not even come close in my opinion.

Then You have to buy 997 instead of the legend.
I am glad that Porsche is stepping back to orig 993 forms. Indeed not the original shape, but still good progress!
