Carpet "buttons"
The problem is the "buttons" that secure the front floor mats from sliding forward. They screw on to a stud that protrudes from the floorboard.
I have the factory mats and another set on top to provide protection for the original mats. One of my "buttons" is 1.65 mm long and it is OK for the two mat stack. It has a slotted head on it as if made for a screwdriver. Color is black.
The other button is only 1.00 mm long-too short. Tried to order a new button from the dealer and got part number 999-049-011-40. But it to is only 1.00 mm long. This part is black and has two small square holes on the head as opposed to the slot style mentioned above.
One further note. My friend's 1996 993 with grey interior carpet has two of the slotted style buttons. They measure 2.15 mm long and are grey in color to match his carpet.
So the big question is where do I find the longer buttons. Parts people are at a loss but admit it should be something that is easily obtainable as they break with foot traffic and also are easily lost. I thought maybe somebody into Concourse preparation might point me in the right direction.
Thanks for the help-I hope.

This is gonna cost you.... You better become a member, ok?
Call Gabe at Strasse-USA at 800-944-9911 in California.
The long carpet hold-down screws can be obtained from Lloyds, Gabe's supplier of the OEM floor mats for our 993's. For some reason, Porsche changed suppliers of floor mats and not only are the new Porsche floor mats garbage (one of the posts said they were made out of recycled soda bottles), but they are supplied with a short hold down screw - causing the problem that you described.
Gabe should be able to order the correct parts that you need. I had the same problem.
Hope this helps. Now sign up for a memebership!!

Thanks so much, how did you every find out the answer to this question?
Yes, I will become a member. Was a member a couple of years ago when I first bought the car and let it lapse.
Thanks again,
Bob
I'm just strange. Let me know how you make out. If you hit the wall on this one, email me. I think I have a few of the long "screws". But Gabe is great - I'm sure he can help you out.

What is the correct p/n and are they in fact available from Lloyds? My mats aren't in bad shape yet but I wouldn't mind replacing them if I need to.
It would be nice if we could retrofit the BMW Velcro style carpet hold down system, they seem to work well on my cars.
